So I've been seeing a lot of people on Escapist recommending Mount & Blade, and since they were recently on Steam for $10 for both, both me and my friend picked them up. And have been playing them all day.
Amazing games, I too would now recommend them to everybody, but that's not really what I made this thread for.
So, whoever advised Mount & Blade on these forums, assume you helped me choose this purchase, and I thank you.
For discussion value, are there any games you picked up because fellow Escapists recommended them, what were they and was the recommendation on the money?

I picked up Dragon Age: Origins on the basis the amount of praise it received from the Escapist community.

I was not completely disappointed. Maybe not super awesome, but alright enough, I suppose.

I've been thinking about getting metro 2033 and the thread up right now talking about it as GOTY is making me want it more. So all those people.

I originally tried out Dragon Age: Origins somewhere because I had heard it was awesome from here. I was pretty disappointed after playing for around 2 hours and being bored out of my mind.

I also picked up Oblivion because I had heard good things on here. I probably still wouldn't have bought it but Steam had the GOTY Deluxe version on sale for $8.50.

Never actually. I've never bought a game on the recommendation of another, however the opinions do help influence me from time to time.

I don't put much faith in professional reviews anymore. I know what I like better than a reviewer does. I'll take the opinion of a large group of people who enjoy the same things I do in games (horror, atmosphere, sound design) over the opinion of some reviewer on ____.com.

I'm the same. I do read reviews, because they may mention something important to me, but I don't think "ooh, that game only got this score from that site, it must suck". I have friends who I share similar opinions with, and we know what each other likes in a game, I'll take their advice. I find I share similar opinions with Yahtzee, though to different degrees obviously. And right now, I'm loving the advice I get from Escapist lol.
My friend got Metro 2033, it's only $7.50 on Steam right now. I would have got it, but I have no money.

Woah, is Mount & Blade still going?! I got the code for the beta of that like 3 years ago, was a cool concept but very little to it...has it gotten any deeper?
