I just saw moviebob's review of Final Destination 5. Really? Is this what 'horror' films have turned into? Bloody and gross deaths? That's just... Dumb. Final Destination needs to stop existing. What are some of your least favorite movie franchises that need to just end right now?

The Pirates of the Caribbean.

The first one was cool, after that they were all pretty crappy.

Other than that I cant really state any franchises I would see die...

Definitely Fast and Furious and the Final Destination movies.. Saw? I actually liked the later ones but Saw 7 was absolutely awful.

Didn't they make like 3 sequels to The Scorpion King without realizing no one cared about it in the first place?

Saw. Most definitely. Jesus Christ, the first one was awful enough, how did that even get a sequel? These movies are not horror, they're torture/gore porn.

Paranormal activity needs to stop doing sequels. Yes it has only had one so far, but a 3rd one is coming out soon and I bet a 4th one is in the works. The first one was a good surprise indie horror film(when it was first made). Leave it at that.

Are you serious?
I counted about 1 sequel with princess which was very bad. THREE sequels?

I may be over exaggerating it, but I am sure that they pumped out at least two more sequels to it.

I really don't know what they saw in that spin off of The Mummy. Maybe there are die hard fans that need to know the backstory?

I didn't think so.

The first one was actually kinda good, and had a point to it. It brought about the question "how far would you go".

It wasn't until the next 20 movies brought about "What gross mutilation will you perform on yourself for the amusement of the theater?"

The matrix

The first movie was groundbreaking and interesting. Everything that was good about the first movie got ripped out when making movies 2 and 3. Now they even announced movies 4 and 5.

Also the scary movie franchise it wasn't funny with movie 1 and it will still suck when the 5th one get released, anyone still remember the no sequels tagline the first movie had .... bunch of lying hacks

I definitely agree with the OP on Final Destination. Number 4 was even named so it sounded like the last one, and now another. Also their content is just people dieing in gruesome ways with no proper writing or structure.

Another I can think of though is definitely the Twilight series. I know they are made from books so they won't stop and I have never actually watched any of them BUT I just saw an advert for the first film being shown on TV and the acting was wooden in the bits they showed. Keeping in mind that adverts normally show some very good moments to advertise it, imagine how bad the rest of the movie actually is. I also have the opinion of the entire internet to support my view.

Well, Dreamworks already claimed they wouldn't make the fifth Shrek movie they've been working on since The Third, but announced the Puss in Boots spin-off movie would become a full-fledged animation movie franchise. I hope this goes well and they don't start milking it again.
EDIT: I'm about to drop a bomb... How To Train Your Dragon 2...

On the subject of Pirates of the Caribbean going bad, it was just that the new one, On Stranger Tides, was a reboot of the franchise, in order to create a new trilogy that will, according to the director, be more epic than the first one, as Jack tries to get the Black Pearl out of that small bottle. We'll see if that works out to make an interesting second trilogy plot. However, thus far, it feels more like sequel bait.

Hollywood is making a new Highlander sequel, knowing the ones they already made were absolute crap and a disgrace to the first movie.

The real problem I'm seeing here is how Marvel is treating their current movie franchises. They're trying to reboot Spider-Man and X-Men, even though the 3rd movies (Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3) of these movie franchises fell short compared the 2nd ones, whilst DC is still going strong. And I'm seeing Disney as having a bad influence on Marvel for some reason, I'm still awaiting to see if they'll pull some shit and put some product placement from some other Disney show or movie franchise in the Marvel movies.

Also, the Happy Feet franchise needs to die, even if Team Bondi has to go with it.

You beat me to it. They should have quit while they were ahead with the second one. I haven't seen either and I'm not seeing the third. Hell, I was against the second but I hear the twist is good.

Tyler Perry should retire. I think that's all that needs to be said there.

SAW, definitely - that poor franchise has been milked to death, you'd hope that when Jigsaw died, that would be an end to it.

I'm in 2 minds about Final Destination though. I really liked the first movie, and I really think that they have a great idea, a horror franchise that need never end - nobody can kill fate after all. I tend to avoid sequels, but often the most annoying thing is the way they explain why there is a sequel in the first place. As if the sequel is ashamed of itself before you even get into the plot.

I think though that we are unfairly blaming sequels for the general cruddyness of horror movies these days. I haven't seen a decent horror movie in years, nothing that made me jump, hell I jump more at Minecraft than most horror movies. For me, I'd rather re-watch a classic horror than bother with the likes of 'Last Excorcism' or SAW7. Give me Alien or Pumpkinhead any day of the week, ohh, or the original Hills Have Eyes - remakes are another kick in the guts - the original Hills is so much better than the remake. The only recentish remake worth watching IMO is Dawn of the Dead, and even that treads a fine line between watchable and sucks. The best remake has to be J.Goldbloom's The Fly. Anyhoo, sorry to rant off topic - thread just got me thinking is all.
