It feels like every movie game tie-in I've ever heard about has been absolutely abysmal. I never play them myself, since I only have so much money and everything I hear about them makes it seem like I may as well wipe my butt with the cash instead. Still it seems like, if there's literally hundreds of the things, at least ONE must be good.

How bout it, Escapists. Have you ever found a good movie game tie-in? I honestly want to know if there's any I've missed.

Although not a tie-in, Jaws: Unleashed was an okay game. Coulda been better though, but still fun for a while.

Oh! Yes! King Kong! I forgot about that. I thought the demo I played on the Xbox (or was it 360?) was really awesome, the monster fighting scenes with King Kong were particularly bad-ass.

PC demo was crap though. Looked crap and handled crap.

Edit: Well don't I feel like an idiot for forgetting Goldeneye. Only the third best N64 game ever.

I enjoyed the hell out of that game, definitely my favourite Movie-Game tie-in of all time.

Same here, enjoyed it more than any movie tie in game (that's obviously a tie in) for the current generation of consoles. The Punisher (2005) game to go with the 2004 movie was pretty good, from what I remember, The Chronicles of Riddick, and Spiderman 2.
I don't know if these count but...
Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, Godzilla: Unleashed, and Star Wars Episode III The Game were pretty good games to me, and the Star Wars Trilogy arcade game and Star Wars Battlefront 2 were pretty awesome.

There are probably a lot more movie tie in games I've played that I can put down, but are kind of good/pretty bad/good to me/I can't remember/don't know whether they count. But the ones I listed above are ones that come out from the top of my head.

I enjoyed:
- The Chronicles of Riddick
- GoldenEye
- Both Star Wars KOTOR games, and I hear some others are pretty good too
- The first two Harry potter games, but those were based on the books I think
- Die Hard Trilogy
- Batman Arkham Asylum (although maybe that's based on comics)

But I think most of these games either weren't even tied to one particular movie (but rather a universe), or weren't rushed out the door as an afterthought at the exact time the movie came out.

That latter thing is why movie games often suck in my opinion. I think there is a lot of potential for making good games based on movies, but the publishers need to get their heads out of their asses and stop treating games like they are some kind of second rate merchandise.

The King Kong game was good. X-Men Origins Wolverine was a good game also. Not all movie tie-in games are terrible, just most of them.

The two Battle for Middle Earth games, which were more tied into the movies than the books.[footnote]For example, Arwen retains the River-Horse-Spirit spell in BfME2 that she uses in Fellowship to wash away the Nazgul. Her role in the book didn't include combat functions.[/footnote] I also heard that the beat-em-ups that were tied into the games were also adequate to excellent, but haven't played them myself.

Speaking of Real Time Strategy, though, Dune II, the game that substantiated the RTS genre, was based off the movie (and not so, the book). Its remake Dune 2000 wasn't up to the times (released about the same time as Starcraft). The proper sequel, Emperor, Battle For Dune, however, was excellent. Both were tied far more into the David Lynch blockbuster, rather than Frank Herbert's novel.[footnote]I'd love to see yet another installment, or one of the Sci-Fi channel dual mini-series that both did the books more justice.[/footnote]

Oddly enough, the much panned Treasure Planet movie was given ship-combat game Battle For Procyon [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasure_Planet:_Battle_at_Procyon] that was pretty good, and notible since Disney had been skirting the issue of creating combat based games (thereby endorsing letting children play such games) before this one. It was also refreshing considering the Atlantis tie-ins were abyssmal.

Oddly, all I talked about were movies of books. Maybe that's what's necessary to make a good tie-in game: a movie about a book.

Wolverine Xmen origins or whatever was a pretty good game besides some annoying jumping. Fun combat and beautiful graphics.
