I didn't want to watch this movie. Unfortunately my sister rented it out and practically begged me to watch it. So now it's time to review what she called, "one of the best movies ever!" You may be familiar with the works of Seltzer and Friedberg. They helped write the fairly enjoyable Scary Movie series. Unfortunately they shouldn't be left to make movies alone. If you've seen Date Movie, Epic Movie or Meet the Spartans. And now for their most recent movie. Yes my friends. It's time to review, Disaster Movie.
Lets start with the plot. One character (maybe if he left an impression I'd remember his name, lets just call him Bob) has a dream about the end of the world. He wakes up to find that the world is supposed to end on that very day. He must save everybody and get his girlfriend back. Yes, it's a fairly bad and quite generic plot but that can be excusable in a parody. Along the way they meet many movie characters to help them on their way.
The main problem comes from the humour. I don't see how anybody finds this funny. It's supposed to parody movies but all it does is takes some movie characters from 2008 and makes them gay (if male) and a transvestite (if female). Some of the jokes are even just copying jokes from what it's "parodying" and making it longer. For example, the movie ends with all the characters singing Sarah Silverman's, "I'm Fucking Matt Damon" about another character in the move. Yes, they do go through every single character. Lucky me!
The jokes that aren't under the above category are just extremely vulgar. For example one part has Juno beating up a character (I didn't care enough to remember who) with her feet (in a parody/ripoff of You don't mess with the Zohan). The disgusting part comes when her baby does the same thing while still inside the womb!
My main problem with the comedy is that they don't understand how to parody. A parody should be observational humour about a genre, and just one specific genre (sometimes a movie, but once again just one). What Disaster Movie does is take a ton of movies and a ton of jokes about women pulling stuff out of their vaginas (seriously, how many times did this happen) and put it all together in a blender.
I suppose I should make fun of, I mean review something other than the poor attempts at humour, so lets talk about the acting. It was atrocious. If the script doesn't make me like the characters then the actors should at least try to. Then again why would anybody want to be in this movie. That's right, money. So I don't blame the actors. You give them a bad script and they'll give you bad acting. At least that's the most logical explanation I can think of.
I suppose I'm boring you so I should get down to the point. This is the worst movie I've ever seen. Period. Seltzer and Friedberg keep getting worse instead of better. There are no redeeming qualities. This movie actually insults my intelligence by only parodying stuff that came out that year, because apparently I won't remember something that happened way back in 2007. In terms of numbers I would give it a zero out of ten, something I've never done before. Yes this movie doesn't have one good thing about it.
