In fact, the Manager of the Studio came in and demanded - and I quote verbatim, "If I find, hear, or come in and see anyone with a cellphone or recording device, I will not only confiscate it, but you will be punished by the full extent of the law and / or I will kick you out of this theater after taking a photo of you and your name down in the main office, and I will withhold your property from you until the proper authorities arrive. I expect the theater to watch out for one another. Thank you and -" I stopped paying attention and turned my phone off.
See, I know you can't have your stuff taken away permanently and I know you can be kicked out of a theater with cops to escort you. All it takes is some creative talking from the Manager and some employees and the audience sits back and watches, but when it came down to everyone looking out for one another and enjoying the film, it was really nice and important to see everyone throwing popcorn and yelling at the person to shut their phone off.
Never seen anyone get escorted out though. Don't know if BS or if telling the truth on that one, but it convinced me enough to say, "whoa, hey, I know people record movies in the theater but I'm not one and I ain't going to jail for that!"
