What exactly is it about these movies that should be of particular interest to men? In fact, what exactly is it about these movies that is particularly "must watch before you die"?
It just seems like a you wanted to list five movies you enjoy.

Why? It's one of the few films from this last year I consider a "must-see".
mabye theyre framing it as a "men beware!" joke

Gone girl is one of those very divisive ones..some people lauding it as feminist, others as misogynistic...not such a bad thing as it generates interesting discussion

thank yooouuuu I'm not the on;y one who's weirded out buy this..I mean I think the OP has a weird "chick flicks/everything else" catagorising thing going on...

like lord of the things or inception (or any Nolan movie) might have some problematic portrayals of women depending on who you ask but the the sausage fest isn't completely overt/lauded over as saaay...Fight Club...except fight club is intentionally like that/subversive

if I serious answer to this movie I'd say Snatch...its a very clever british "heist gone wrong" spoof, really good film

except I fucking hated it...

well no thats not quite true, my brother was like come oooooon watch iiit pleeeeaaase and I told him "no I just want to read my book" and he was like "its not your typical bro movie!" and he was right in that it had a clever plot, was funny and wasn't just action schlock

escept it WAS a bro movie, I knew that...and when we watched it I didn't enjoy it at all because I was NOT in the mood. He thourght that just because it was good that I wouldn't care or that the fact it was quality meant it couldn't be a sausage fest film, but quality or not thats exactly what it was...he even asked how I can love Tarantino films yet hate this...and I actually don't know, meabyce because Taratino is half decent with his female charachters? mabye my tastes have matured? I don't know

off topic but the point of that little story was that people make all kinds of assumptions about things weather thinking quality is enough to trump the same tired bullshit or weather people can only like films as designated in their own little genre ghetto OR they don;'t realise how pervasive the androcentrism is in our entertainment

Some sci-fi ones:

District 9: My favourite film ever. The collection of weaponry they use in this movie is one of the most badass I've seen. There's a gun that fires a fucking thunder cloud.

Elysium: Almost the same movie as District 9.

Pacific Rim: Giant robots versus giant monsters. You get what you ask for.

whats the qualifier for being "male only" here? because 90% of mainstream movies are pretty much male centric by default

You kind of answered your own question there. Bro movies.

I won't argue that the majority of mainstream movies aren't male centric, however there's generally a pretty clear distinction between a male centric movie and a bro movie. It's the difference between say Lord of the Rings and 300

You're acting like watching 'The Room' is a punishment or something. I'd say it's the ultimate bro movie, in that it shows exactly why Best Friends shouldn't fall out over some chick: one of you will always end up throwing a TV out the window and shooting himself.

That post title, while rather... questionable, did catch my attention, I'll admit.

The Thing is definitely on my list. It's ALWAYS on my list.

But other candidates would be Black Hawk Down, Snatch, and Pulp Fiction, as others have mentioned.

I think I'd also consider Seven Samurai (or maybe The Magnificent Seven, I really liked both), The Good The Bad and The Ugly, For A Few Dollars More (which I found to be more memorable than the first movie), Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells (which I kinda liked more than Snatch), Alien (riveting horror in space, and Sigourney Weaver was perfect- does this not count because it has a female lead actor?), and Ghostbusters (another sort of boys movie, but I do hope the new one has some really funny ladies in it- in fact, I've changed my mind completely on this, and now think an all-girl team might be really fun).

EDIT: I nearly forgot to add The Big Lebowski.

Oh, and either Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead.

John Wick deserves to be on that list.

One of the best action movies of the past decade, and one helluva 'bro movie' if you want such a thing. With a simple, relatable story that allows for the single tear those manly men are allowed to shed, because a dog is a man's best friend, and fantastically choreographed action scenes (best gunfights I've seen in ages) it makes for a perfect evening of Neanderthal entertainment.

Have you guys seen this yet? Seems like a winner for 'manliest movie' even though it's not out yet. (Plugging this upcoming movie I just found out about yesterday, it seems really really awesome AND is on-topic as hell.)

edit:Youtube embed not working for some reason, here's a direct link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMnURHXFhuE The movie's called Hardcore, and it's gonna be a completely 1st person POV action movie starring a Russian parkour cyborg who has to fight a million dudes to save his girl/creator. Fuckin manly.

Other than that, there's this movie called 'Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man' that I recommend every American male watch at some point in his life. It's basically a (then) modern cowboy story, with Mickey Rourke in the lead role looking like a young Bruce Willis.

The Raid !

The Raid 2 !

Best action movies of the decade !

Most people turn their heads away when they see some of violent scenes in these movies so this being a "for males" list , i came to the conclusion these movies fit perfectly .

Also do not except drama or romance in these movies . Its all non stop EPIC action from start to finish . Its highly satisfying .

Both the films are subbed and dubbed .

You can thank me now .

Shawshank Redemption? Only woman in it is dead. Well, apart from background actresses in like two scenes. World's greatest bromance

Holy cow, some people really need to lighten up. This is a lighthearted thread that's meant to be fun, and some are trying to transform it into some sort of crusade against oppression.

Calm down, have a coke and a smile, and have a little fun. It won't kill you.

I mean, this sounds really sexist since women can enjoy all these movies anyways, but I'm not going to get into that.

Already mentioned but Pacific FUCKING Rim. You know how most movies are like lets have an hour and 40 minutes of character drama and make the last 20 minutes the big action scene? Pacific Rim says fuck that noise. Let's have an hour and 40 minutes of Robots beating up monster and monsters beating up robots, and 20 minutes of character drama (actual times may vary). They use a freighter as a fucking Katana. A SHIPPING FREIGHTER.

Also, Die Hard has been mentioned, but I want to say it again because not only is it manly as fuck, it's a manly as fuck CHRISTMAS movie. Other good manly movies included the Indiana Jones movies, all the James Bond films, and Pulp Fiction.

Honestly, I thought the complete opposite. I did like Pacific Rim, but I thought there was WAY too much filler between the first Kaiju battle and then the Hong Kong battle. I can't remember exactly how long it was, but it felt like nearly an hour of filler.

But what honestly killed me there was we spent all that time hyping up the other Jaegers, and then they die in about 10 seconds.

Bridesmaids... The best movie to watch with a bunch of dudes, hands down!

On a more "serious" note, West Side Story, Grease, and Repo! The Genetic Opera if you wan some MANLY singing in your MANLY movie... Honorable mention to The Phantom of the Opera due to Gerard Butler's MANLY singing pipes...

Other than that, there's Black Swan because... well... you know... *wink* *wink*

I would add "Falling Down" (1993), if I had not learned in all those years, just how many girls/women like that movie.
So... let's go with "Dollars Trilogy" (kudos Terrorade) by Sergio Leone and then make it even better with "A Fistful of Dynamite" AKA "Duck, You Sucker!"
