Agreed. I never found the straight horror stories all that scary until I started reading the stories about species that lived a billion years ago on earth or the ones that will come after we're dead and gone. Those trains of thought scared the living crap out or me, and still do.

Dystopian works recently. I watched Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, and I was fascinated and yet horrified at how believable such a theoretical timeline could be. Hitler and Imperial Japan both crumble, yet Germany wins the war and leaves Japan with a paramilitary organization little better than Military Police, with massive riots and political discourse plaguing everything. And then realizing that this was merely an analogue for actual events that happened during the time in which the film was set.
