You know those movies where someone has a dull/terrible life, and something happens and they wake up as themselves but much younger? Quite often to get a second chance at their life? I'm trying to form a list of those movies. Can anyone help?

I should point out that I'm not specifically looking for time travel movies, but time travel does often feature- though it isn't crucial. For example, Peggy Sue Got Married has time travel, but 17 Again does not. They both qualify, whereas Back to the Future doesn't, because Marty goes back to when someone else is much younger.

So far I have:

Peggy Sue Got Married
17 Again, and
Prince of Persia- Sands of Time

Groundhog day comes to mind, It's about a reporter doing a story on groundhog day in a town when he discovers that he is stuck in an infinite loop of the day repeating itself over and over again

Hot Tub Time Machine, and that Nic Cage movie where he's married to Tea Leoni. I forget the title.

I'm not 100% if these count for your criteria but I'll throw them out there...

1. Donnie Darko. He really doesn't go far back (a week I believe but it's been a while since I've seen it). He's a teenager in the movie trying to not go insane (the reasoning of this depends on how you interpret the movie).

2. The Butterfly Effect: I feel like I'm the only one who loved this movie but I greatly enjoyed it. The main character constantly goes back in time, changes something, then gets back to the future and finds out that he's goneand fucked it up.

3. Run Lola Run. Another one where the main character doesn't go very far back in time (also, it's in German so I hope you don't mind subtitles). Great movie with a very interesting idea: the main character restarts her day repeatedly and shows different causes and effects from her tiny choices.

I think Butterfly is the only one that actually meets your criteria but if you get desperate, I would recommend all three of these movies.

The only one I can think of is Click. It starred Adam Sandler and was about a magical remote that could control time, to an extent.
I would also say Big, but thats more of a wake up older than a wake up young movie.

There's also Mr. Destiny, although that doesn't fit your criteria I don't think.

Again, this doesn't fit your criteria, but there's this great movie called Repeaters [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1580426/], which is about three drug addicts in rehab, living the same day over and over again. I loved it, except maybe the very ending. Overall it was great, like a dark version of Groundhog Day.

18 Again

A movie from the 80's with George Burns and Charlie Schlatter. Burns is Schlatter's grandfather, and on his 81st birthday they go ride in his car and have an accident, which leaves Schlatter trapped in the comatosed body of his grandpa and Burns in his still alive and kicking grandson's.

There's also Switch.

Which is a 2nd chance movie, but without time travel/getting younger. It's about this male chauvinist guy who gets shot by these three jilted women who've had enough of his womanizing ways. The guy goes to purgatory where God tells him he's a good enough person to be allowed into heaven, but he's been such a shit to women that he deserves to go straight to hell. So he gets sent back to Earth to find one woman who truly likes him, otherwise it's the pit of hell from him. Only the Devil makes sure he gets sent back as a woman to teach him a lesson.

Not much of 'younger self' movie, but the Second Chance theme is pretty apparent in Groundhog Day.
In case you are not aware, Bill Murray relives the same day over and over again, stuff happens, and **SPOILER ALERT** lives happily ever after.

(Do I get bonus points for today's date?)

The Family Man? God, I love Nic Cage. Thanks for giving me an excuse to talk about Nic Cage. He's so great. Defo my favorite actor ever, of all time.

OT: Groundhog Day springs immediately to mind. Would the Matrix count?

Also there's the Butterfly Effect. What about the Curious Case of Benjamin Button?

And that's all I know off really, sorry.

Holy cow how could I forget Groundhog Day! Of course! And Hot Tub Time Machine is fantastic, too.

Some great suggestions here, and a healthy dose of Nic Cage love (is that a Vampire's Kiss gif? it IS!) along with ones I really should have remembered myself. Run Lola Run and Donnie Darko do qualify, I think. Lola barely scrapes by because I think she starts to realise just vaguely that she's been there before.

Not sure about Family Man though- it's more of an alternate present than a relived past. Still a good movie though.

Come to think of it, wasn't Sliding Doors like that as well? I can't even really remember.

Anyway I'll have to check out some of these.

Frequency? Not so much reliving the past, as sending messages back in time to alter it.
