I actually find sci-fi films of the last 40 years have dated far more than older films like "Metropolis". I think that this is because many of these films depend too much on their design and wardrobe to create a "look" that ties them to the time they were made, and sci-fi films especially can't get away with it. E.g., "Soylent Green", "Tron", "Equilibrium", "Terminator".

[post about the film "The Crow"]
Unlike you, I watched that film for the first time the other day and I loved it. It might be the fact that you saw it so much as a kid that now you're a little bored of it, but for a first time viewing, I thought it was a pretty good film..

OT: A lot of old horror or "scary" films are a bit out dated nowadays. E.g. Jaws. Whilst it may be a classic, when you compare it to modern day films of that genre, it isnt exactly up to scratch but it's still worth watching

was about to agree to this kind of stuff, most "horror" movies in from 1910-1980~ish are utter shit, a good 99% of them i have watched i'm either laughing from how fucking bad/pathetic it is, or I'm bored because it's not even interesting.

honestly our fucking ancestors were such panzy asses when it came to horror movies..
While I agree with you that most of the stuff from the past sucks I'd have to argue, as a horror fan, that most horror movies in general are just plain bad, particularly the modern gore porn.

OT: The Exorcist has aged horribly for me.

I was going to say something about how SyFy original movies won't age well because they're crap when they're made but I don't really know anyone that actually thinks they're good movies either.

For real though I'd have to go with Avatar because everyone that saw in the theater busted a nut over the special effects and the 3D and all that crap and now that they've bought it on DVD I've seen quite a few people that have decided the story was a bunch of preachy enviro-hippy bullshit.
I actually don't know why I still like Avatar. It has the same plot as The Last Samurai and other movies, and TLS did it better.
The Last Samurai?
Try comparing it to Pocahontas... xD

The orignal Spawn film. John Leguizamo he was fine perfect, but everything else was a badly done train wreck.

Didn't like Pocahantas or Dances With Wolves as much as TLS.

The cgi in The Last Starfighter is utterly terrible compare the current cgi base films.
Just to be clear, I agree that the cgi might be dated, but the story itself is still real fun to watch. Sorry, felt a little defensive there.

For my contribution, I'll offer 1995's Hackers. Ah, it was made in simpler times, before people realized that hackers were less sexy establishment fighters, and more thuggish basement dwellers. Just so silly now.

2001 A space odyssey and E.T personally i don't like E.T and Space Odyssey seemed average to me
I have yet to watch Space Odyssey all the way through yet. I'm sure I will at some point, but when I tried last time the over-long intro turned me off, and I eventually fell asleep. There's slow pacing, and then there's just dragging it out.

Anyway, the Dollars trilogy comes to mind. I still enjoyed all three of them, but I have to admit that the acting (especially in Fistfull of Dollars) is pretty laughable at times.

Any movie that was supposed to be notorious and edgy in it's day ages poorly. For example, a Clockwork Orange; sure, it's vulgar and brutal, but in this day and age it is hardly shocking

Citizen Kane was a groundbreaking piece of film in many ways, but nowadays it just bores me to tears.

Star Wars, the original trilogy. It was so far in the future it looped backed around the curve of the universe and caught up to 1970....

Or Tron. But I heard denigrating that film to anything lower than pornstar status gets a poster the automatic "assassinate...preferably loud and messy" tag.

Thats why i put in two shells ...

hehe ;)

Clockwork Orange. For something set in the "future" it looks very 60's...
I don't think that was the point. I think it was meant to be in the future in the sense that it was a long way off society as we know it in a world of extreme crime and questionable government treatments. Language for example is massively different.

In the movie it's scaled down a bit from what I understand.

Just noticed the "..." and realised you might be being not completely serious :L

The content of The Pride of a Nation might not find too many receptive audiences. Although, I'm certain the themes could easily be given new clothing and sell well in some circles. People will watch anything if you put enough explosions in it.

I am going to say: American History X.

I used to love the film and found it profound and powerful when I saw it in the cinemas.

I watched it again last year and most of the film felt ham-fisted and cheesy. It was too preachy and, apart from Norton's performance, everyone was overacting. I was showing it to my fiance and she giggled at the cheesiness.

The person who said American Beauty is also on the money. I remember thinking that it and Fight Club were the two great films from that year. I still think Fight Club is great.
