Sometimes, filmmakers get so caught up in making their movie appear "deep" that they forget that it won't matter if their audience is falling asleep. This is the case with a lot of George Clooney movies. Syriana was one such movie. It was, in fact, the first movie that put me to sleep.

I just saw The American last night and it is by far the worst movie I have ever seen in theatres. Why? Nothing happened. The entire film is just exposition and setting, although you never really know the character's motives behind anything they do. George Clooney plays an assassin but he's more of a photographer of butterflies, since there's never anyone to assassinate. The film follows him in his daily life in an Italian town. This means that you'll see multiple scenes of him walking back and forth in some desolate Italian town. The most exciting parts of these scenes is when he suddenly casts a wary glance backwards to reveal that *gasp* nothing is following him. Eventually someone does follow him, and you are never really made to understood why they did. Maybe they saw a pre-screening of the film and wanted to kill him before it was made, I don't know.

Anyways, this last part is what was what was in the trailers, making the movie look like some sort of suave Jason Bourne/James Bond/Leon combo. Sounds perfect. But instead you get George Clooney fixing a gun for 30 minutes, George Clooney walking on ruins for 30 minutes, George Clooney in the park for 30 minutes, George Clooney having sex for 20 minutes, and George Clooney actually shooting for 10 minutes. And in all of these are random shots of random things, because it's artistic to do so.

Why should we care about any of this? It's never explained or shown. Maybe because he's George Clooney and everyone should care about him. I know I'll never see another movie with him after this, even though he was great in Burn After Reading and From Dusk Till Dawn.

It's worse than The Informant!, another abysmally boring film that never went anywhere. It was also marketed as something it wasn't; a comedy. Maybe if I had gone to see The American with the intent of seeing some sort of gun-making/scenic tour of Italy with hookers movie, I would have liked it more. Or maybe not, because that's egotistical, wanna-be-artsy, arrogant schlock.

What movies have you seen that bored you to death? What makes a movie boring for you?

Lord of The Rings, I fell asleep about 30 minutes into that. Haven't attempted to watch it since.

Pride and Goddamn Prejudice. I went to see it in exchange for a trip to five guys, the best restaurant ever.

Somehow, it was even worse than I thought. It follows the lives of bunch of annoying, shrieky characters that wonderful conversations about fucking ribbons.

Everyone in this movie was extremely irritating, to the point where I mentally superimposed on all the characters faces every time they talked. It was the most boring, pointless, banal piece of tripe I've seen in my life, and I've seen Shark Boy and Lava Girl, a masterpiece compared to this shit.

Fellowship of the Ring put me to sleep in theaters, though I was 8 at the time and didn't understand the plot at all. It wouldn't knock me out now, that's for sure.

I tried watching 8 1/2 late last night (aka. early this morning after L4D). While I could appreciate that it was a cinematic masterpeice, my head just wasn't in the right place for it.

Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, The Godfather, Heat, Gladiator, The Matrix....and those are my favorite movies. I just can't watch any movie anymore without getting bored out of my mind and falling asleep.

God help me but I can't sit through another showing of Dune or Clockwork Orange.
I know this makes me a bad cinema nerd but I honestly just zone out after about 30 minutes of either of those films.

Of all the movies I have seen, I almost fell asleep during the following movies:

Twilight: Eclipse - If they didn't do that making out stuff, I would have been done for the count.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End: Didn't help I worked a very busy shift at my job and my girlfriend and I were very tired (Not because of anything other than working at our job)

and Identity (With John Cusack, Ray Liotta and John C. Mcginley). I was at a friend's house, nodded off, work up at the end of the movie and actually understood kind of what was going on.

Blade Runner

It's an excellent movie with amazing visuals, but the plot just puts me to sleep within 20 minuts. And that freaking Vangelis music doesn't really help at keeping me awake either.

WALLe - I didn't even watch it. That robot voice in the commercial that says, "you look gorgeous" almost puts me to sleep every time I see it...

The Godfather - It just looks... Pathetic...

Iron Man made me fall asleep, that's the only film that has made me fall asleep from what I can remember.

Yeah the movie is; the book, on the other hand, is a lot better but only if you like pointed satire about the failings of the english upper classes.

Superman returns. Of course that might have been because I was watching it at a drive-in, laying on the roof of my car at almost midnight.

Ocean's twelve and collateral. The first, I have no idea what's going on, at any point and the second, I just can't stay awake for the whole film. Collateral also seems to suffer from dialouge akin to whipering, as opposed to the volume of the action sequences. I had to keep changing the volume to hear the dialogue, then promptly snooze...
