I didn't cry. And I wanted to punch the brother...a lot. I thought he was a whiny bastard.
Yeah, having the shit royally blown out of your city and your family pwned kinda makes that to your character.
It was because of what happened wit his sister that made me feel that way, how ignored her being sick forever. I know he was in denial, but seriously? Waiting that long to do something about it was just absurd.
If I remember correctly, he couldn't even retire the money away from the bank until after his dad had died or something. He didn't let little sis die, he went to get the food almost at the end 'cuz that's when he could take out the cash not because he was in denial. Poor guy.

Wait... so you cried to fucking King Kong... a movie about a giant gorillia, but not to
where two children lose their mother to a firebombing and one of them starves to death while the other tries desperately to feed them?

I think the whole reason I didn't cry at it was because of when he tried to steal the food and when the guy beats the crap out of him, he apologizes and doesn't fight back to protect himself.

King Kong was sad because it was a gorilla being mistreated and shot off a sky scraper. How is that not sad?

The fact that the enire scenario is ape-shit crazy (pun fully intended) kinda kept me from getting emotionaly involved in the movie.

At least the situation in Grave of the Fireflies is plausible, and probable. And as for the kid apologizing, well, he stole, he probably didn't want to be arrested, and then you have to figure in Japanese culture into the equation.

I'm a girl, so puppy kickers and gorilla shooters make me cry. And while I understand you point, I personally would not have apologized for stealing that food as I was doing it to survive. You shouldn't have to apologize for fighting to survive. Also, I'm not the only person who didn't cry at that movie. Everyone else with me who watched it had basically the same reaction (It was in my anime seminar class). I did feel bad, but I didn't cry. Maybe my tear ducts are faulty.

Yeah. That really affected me when robot kid was abandoned by his mother. So....sad....

Another movie that really pulls at your heartstrings (so much you feel you need reconstructive heartstring surgery) is "Grave of the Fireflies". The ending of that movie, when

the little girl is so sick she starts chewing on marbles...and then....and then...oh god, it's freaking depressing.

You had an anime seminar? That's interesting enough in itself, but it suprises me even more than you are a big enough fan to attend a seminar on anime and still didn't cry. You just added to my befuddlment and confusion.

Yeah it's one of the classes at the college I go to. Nobody in the class cried. Pretty much everyone was like "Wow, that really sucks...." The only anime I've ever cried at was "Millennium Actress".

Well I didn't cry either, but I've never cried to anything in film. But the movie definetly made me tear up a little and got me depressed. I figured if you're the kind of person to cry to about any movie, then "Grave" would be one of them.

I'm just... like... I just can't comprehend how you could cry to Cast Away or King Kong, and not Grave of the Fireflies.
