Hi everyone, we all have certain gaps in our movie experiences that everyone else seems to consider not having filled some grievous offense to humanity, I happen to think I have more than most, I thought it would be fun to share, I compiled a list with the intent of watching them, and thought it would be fun to see if anyone else shares in my apparent unculturedness

so here it is (please note that The Matrix down to Ferris Beuler have since been crossed off the list, but I'm not sure how to do that here, also a lot of these are movies a single friend keeps telling me I should watch)

List of movies I haven?t seen that apparently I really should

These are the ones off your list I haven't seen either.
Some movies I'd just watch for "completion" at this point (E.T.), some out of curiosity (the original Batman, Rambo, etc.) and some because I *have* to, like It's a Wonderful Life.
Here's MY list. Part of it anyway.

A Bronx Tale
First Blood
Ghost in the Shell
Grave of the Fireflies
Heaven's Gate
Intolerance
Kurosawa's Dreams
New York, New York
Novecento
Paris Texas
They Shoot Horses Don't They?

The Godfather Trilogy
Goodfellas
Schindler's List
Red Dawn (original)
Reservoir Dogs
The Fly

I do recommend City of God if you haven't seen it yet also. Great Brazilian movie.

I've probably seen about 80% of the movies in that original list. Anyway, for my contribution there are a couple of movies that really need to be watched, and I've no idea why the last two haven't been said yet:

The Dollars Trilogy (I've only seen the first one so far)
Pan's Labyrinth
Lord of the Rings
Star Wars

A few of those in the OP aren't important to see, really (most notably, Batman Forever and Batman and Robin; they're not worth seeking out). A lot of the James Bond films aren't great, either, and you could get away with just watching the highlights (Dr. No through until Diamonds Are Forever, Live And Let Die, Goldeneye, Casino Royale & Skyfall. Those're the essentials, though my dad is in A View To A Kill for a few seconds, so I feel obliged to recommend that, too).

Some of them are incredible experiences, though. I'm glad you feel motivated enough to whittle down that list. It's worth it for some of them.

I can think of a few that I achingly need to see, including Scarface, Brazil, and several Coen Brothers films I haven't seen yet.

Not that I presume to know the first thing about your personal taste in movies, but there are a few on that list that you probably should take the time to see. Such as: The Matrix, The Godfather (and part II), The Shawshank Redemption, Die Hard, Alien, Aliens, Superman, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Terminator 1 & 2, and, if you have any taste for camp sci-fi, Total Recall.

But, hey, no biggie if you do or don't. I've got a long list of "must-see"s myself, most of us do. You just get to it on your own time.

I have to put in a special mention for Red Dawn (the original, not the one starring Thor). It's fairly ridiculous and thoroughly mocked nowadays, but I just love that fucking movie.

Also, Alien and Aliens. And I would skip X-men: The Last Stand. Just...no.

Oh god, who told you to go watch X-Men: the Last Stand? Whoever they are needs to be smacked. The ONLY good thing about that film was Kelsey Grammar as Beast. I'd say you can skip that one. Seriously: skip it. Move on to X-Men: First Class and forget that film ever existed.

Watchmen...I guess if you're one of those people who can't just accept Superheroes as they are, the concept at face value, go ahead and give it a watch. It's not that is's a BAD film, because it's not, it's just...usually the people who DEMAND you watch it are too caught up and enamored with 'the message' and all that crap and most times I've found that they're just Watchmen fanboys. Which we all know that Fanboy suggestions are not all that valid.

Every classic western.

Because I kinda hate westerns.
Me too. Oh God, me too. I've watched a few and I just really, really don't like them. Cowboys aren't interesting to me. The desert looks fucking boring. I don't care that jimmy and his gang of bank robbers is coming into town on the next train.

I just don't like them!

since writing the list I've seen Watchmen, thought it was pretty good, but I fully understand what you mean, and X-Men: the Last Stand is the only X-men movie I never got around to (and as it happens First Class is my favorite) so if I'm bored enough one day I might watch Last Stand for the sake of completion

Have you ever seen Tombstone, Unforgiven, Pale Rider, or The Dollars Trilogy? I'm not a big fan of westerns, but those movies are just fantastic.

Oh GOD. I brought up all the "classic" movies I've never seen (completely) at work once and couldn't get a word in over all the "WHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!!?!"s and "HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE SEEN [BLANK]!?"s.

I can't remember all of them that drew a reaction, but I know some of the biggest ones off the top of my head:

I haven't seen...
-Any Back to the Future movies
-The Sandlot
-Terminator (I have seen the sequel, though)
-Ferris Bueller's Day Off
-Ghostbusters 1 or 2 (I own them on DVD now but haven't got around to watching them yet)
-Any Alien movies
-Predator
-Alien vs Predator
-Jaws (I've seen the ending, though)
-Scarface (I've also seen the ending of that one)

Those were the biggest offenders that got me the most ridicule. I would like to point out, though, that I have seen all the Star Wars movies and a girl in my workplace hadn't which most considered WAY worse. And I think I deserve some nerd credit for watching all of the Star Wars movies AND all 3 Lord of the Rings movies (the extended cuts, even!) back to back, respectively.

you're not the first person to ask me this, I spent more of my childhood playing games than watching movies, to be fair I only started taking an interest in movies when Lord Of The Rings came out (having said that there was never a time I wasn't happy to sit through any Star Wars movie...except the Clone Wars movie obviously)

Never too late to get into the wonder of film. If you haven't seen Heat, I'd add it to that list. It's a great movie with a great cast. (Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Val Kilmer, Natalie Portman, Hank Azaria, and more, it's got a pretty big cast.)

My friend keeps telling me I need to watch Top Gun. I should also watch all the other aviation movies out there while I'm at it seeing as I am a student pilot.

OP had one hell of a list o_O
I didn't reccognise 20% of the movies and haven't seen a big deal o them
The first ones that come to mind that I should see are Titanic, E.T and Top Gun
But there are many more
Of course I don't really care when someone tells me what to do, I watch the movies I think I will enjoy, not to sit through 2-3 hours of boredom to be able to say I did it.
Of course there are movies I would enjoy that I haven't seen. I'll come around to those eventually.

Well, therein lies your problem. You haven't seen any good ones.
