Game to movie: Bioshock. The art-deco setting and would look gorgeous on the big screen, and it could offer some great horror-thrills. Plus, it has one of the most mature, non-derivative video game storylines I've ever seen.

Movie to game: District 9. Don't tell me that part at the end with
Wikus in the alien mech
didn't SCREAM to be made into a video game.

Movie to game: I'd personally like to see the movie "Mountain Men" turned into a game. But I'm kind of crazy like that.

game to movie: Nothing. It won't work well or in a manner that fans of the game would ever be totally behind.

V the miniseries, Leon maybe or Ghost Dog, every single samurai movie of Kurosawa (Sanjuro, Yojimbo, Ran etc) into games would be great, The Untouchables would be good too (although their doing Mafia 2 so it's it's equivalent), The Drafted film that will be released in 2010 (the comics) that'be good too.
Berserk
Madmax
some accurate medieval movies into games...
some spaghetti cowboys movies into games...
some vampire movies into games...
etc etc etc ...

At least 5 of them have been done.
Yeah, I'm just nit-picking.
EDIT: And I ballesed that up.
And I'm also having a bit of fun.

There's actually a Bioshock movie being made, which I am very excited about. Highlander is an awesome movie and I bet you could make an awesome game with it.

The amount of times this has come up on conversation, well here's a few ides. Probably all terrible but, relax, they're just suggestions.

Movie-Game: Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life.

Why? Well, actually I'm pretty sure it'll suck as a game if you treat it episodically and literally (as in doing it to the letter and having the game set up in "levels"). What would suit it would be to just have a mess of scenarios and surrealist moments where you're never told what you're supposed to be doing and what your ultimate goal is. Sometimes the controls don't work or sometimes the game is to put up with something really annoying for an unspecified time or pause the game and go make yourself a nice sandwich. It probably won't even conclude, it just goes on forever.

Movie-Game: Bladerunner.

Easily made into FPS or Third-Person-Shooter, but better if you were following an alternate storyline that was set in the "world" of Bladerunner.

Movie-Game: Mad Max (someone told me this had been done already, but I haven't seen it). Standard sandbox FPS/RPG a la Fallout 3.

Movie-Game: eXistenZ.

It's already based on games but when I watched it I did think "I would play that" especially the bit with the "special" I won't ruin it for you but if you haven't yet seen it, but it's awesome.

Movie-Game: Equilibrium.

If they could get the "Gun Kata" right I'd play it, but it might be better if you weren't playing as John Preston but another Cleric along a parallel storyline. Although this is a pretty weak choice because of the very high risk that it'll be boring and half-finished like the Matrix games were.

Last but not least.

Movie-Game: Judge Dredd.

Yeah, the film itself was pretty lax, but maybe it chose the wrong medium, now that technology has caught up I think it'll work as long as they keep it in line with the comics.

I would love to see a game made not from an existing movie but rather made to a movie's style. I love the old 80's action movies, filled with corn-flour blood, pyrotechnics, one-liners and stupid haircuts. As well as car chases and women with certain *ahem* assets.

A few suggestions for the Game-Movie.

Oddworld (Not any particular game but the world as a whole all blended into one)
Gears Of War (Maybe, as long as it didn't turn out like the DOOM movie.)
Bioshock (I'm just fantasizing here, hopefully Shanks and Lund will be giving us a peek at what that would be like).

Infamous to a movie
Assassins Creed(with a good enough budget) they got some stuff in Assassins Creed Lineage but they can do better.
I did like the series though

I can't agree with you on V. It's an amazing movie, yes, but there's really not enough substance in it to be a game. It'd inevitably either kill the story or make for a lousy game.

There is a Highlander game in the works, and it's promising so far, but it's not directly about the first movie, as it stars anothers member of the McLeod immortals (if I remember correctly).

If made challenging enough and with versatile gameplay, the Crank-movies could make a game made out of awesome... on fire.
