Most of the <20% movies on Rotten Tomatoes that I end up enjoying, things like Whiteout, Ultraviolet, & Underworld.

how did I forget, the Deathnote film...
Same here. I just caught it on TV one day and decided to watch it just to see how awful it was. Totally surprised it didn't suck. The actor who played L really pulled off the part.

"The Island" - I'd heard it was a Michael Bay film, which immediately make me want to bash my brain down to the level of a hyperactive 10-year-old (i'm not far off anyway) but...it's actually GOOD. I mean, really good. yes it gets stupid as fuck, but for the most part it's a really interesting film.

"Gattaca" - Went into it expecting to be bored out of my mind. But it was amazing. I was absolutely gripped by it, and Jude Law's character was the most awesome movie character I could remember seeing up until that point in time.

The reaping. The trailer makes it feel like a cheap dime a dozen horror movies. When i watched it the storyline really surprised me.

Inception.

Don't know what all the hussle was about. It wasn't complicated, just a lamer version of matrix, without trenchcoats.

Turns out to be one of by favorite movies ever

Off-topic (kinda) :I think I'll go watch "The curious case of Benjamin Button" now.

t rewies and all, just for boredom, and I was amazed how much everyone hated it, so I was about to jump on the bandvagon and hate it too, but for my surprise is actually pretty good.
Not as good as the originals, but come on those are classics.

I don't watch movies that I expect to hate.

Also, I'm not twelve. I don't hate movies.

I thought that it was going to be dumb. It was, but it was so well made that I just lost myself in the film. Anytime a boat full of people is about to hit Mount Everest and I am nervous as to how they are going to get out of it, I'm sold.

This might not be a popular one but I really enjoyed Hot Tub Time Machine.

But then again, I'm a disillusioned 30-something...

Where The Wild Things Are. At first I thought "How do you make a movie out of a twenty-page book?" but I was wrong.

How To Train Your Dragon

I'm not saying it was super duper, but atleast it had honesty and sincerity: Something that all Dreamworks Animation movies since
The Prince of Egypt and Antz have sorely lacked (Not counting anything by Aardman... Except Flushed Away, that was shit.)

The Hangover. It looked like one of those comedies where all the funny bits were in the trailer and the rest of it would either be fart jokes or jokes that would get overused and would already be unfunny. Turns out, it's one of the best comedies in years!
I agree with this!

Anyway, all of my favorite books (Harry Potter, etc.) have been made into movies. Frankly, they are not good. I was expecting the 6th (yes, I know i'm late on that bandwagon) to suck, but it was actually pretty good, surpassing my expectations because of its 3 predecessors... The first 2 were still the best though, simply because of Old Dumbledore. He is not supposed to be loud, but quiet and gentle...

How to Train Your Dragon is another one that surpassed my expectations.

Recently watched Titanic and Forgetting Sarah Marshall and thought both were great. Titanic was an amazing film, which, despite the hype, was surprising to me. Forgetting Sarah Marshall was just plain hilarious - especially anything with Russell Brand and Jonah Hill together!
