Movies your glad you watched but can't recommend.

This may sound strange but have you ever watched a movie that you liked for whatever reason but you don't feel like its a movie you could request to your friends or family? My example of this would be The Law Abiding Citizen. Though a great movie ( minus Gerard Butler taking off all his clothes for no apparent reason ) and having so many mix of emotions and different struggles that leave you questioning well after the movie ends, I couldn't see myself telling my friends this is a movie you have to see. Why is that?

So give me your thoughts about this. If you have faced the same situation tell me what movie you have faced this with.

I love the movie, though I just feel it would be awkward to suggest to someone because of the Japanese viewpoint.

Oh yeah, and the scene where a squad of Japanese soldiers kill themselves with grenades.

Cirque Du freak - sucked from the books, and horribly scripted at times, but not bad as a stand-alone film..

Gotta go with Avatar here. I enjoyed it for what it was and didn't think it was terrible in any way, but I don't see myself ever suggesting anyone go see it for anything more than a pretty decent use of 3D.

Hmm, I think I might have to say The Fountain, the 2006 Darren Aronofsky film that everyone forgets. While visually astonishing, emotionally heart-rending and featuring the traditional incredible Clint Mansell soundtrack, the overall story ended up being interesting but ultimately confusing and somewhat disappointing (the trailer was also somewhat misleading). While I can't say I wouldn't recommend it to anyone (I obviously liked it or I wouldn't be mentioning it in this thread) it's definitely not a film for everyone.

I'm glad I watched every movie I have seen, be they great or terrible. If I listed out every movie that I am glad to have seen but wouldn't recommend, I would lose over two hours of my life and no one would have the patience to read them all. So, instead, I'm going to give you a title that I hated so much that I had to give it a high score but would never tell anyone to view it: Catherine Hardwicke's Thirteen. The story of two 13-year-old girls who peer pressure each other into diving into sex, drugs, and crime. It's a damn good film, don't get me wrong, but I hated the fuck out of it. It earns a 4 out of 5 score in my books thanks to a loophole in the way I score movies: the more emotion I feel during a movie, the higher its score. I will never watch it again and I do not recommend anyone else watch it, but I am still glad to have seen it.

I think it's actually one of the most heart-breaking and powerful movies ever made. You're definitely right about the advertising being misleading though...the movie isn't even really a scifi. >_<

i know it sounds stupid because it is such a good movie but i just can't bring myself to recommend "a clockwork orange" because i think people will loook down on me because i like it
