I wouldn't recommend The Assassination of Jesse James to my friends, although I would recommend it in general, if that makes much sense.

I fucking love that film.

The Lovely Bones.

At first I didn't like it, but eventually I came round and found it oddly thought provoking.
But geeeez did it drag.
I liked it, but I really felt that
the ending didn't really resolve anything. I mean, sure Harvey dies and Sussie returns to peace, but the Salmon Family never find her remains and Harvey's death seemed so externally forced.
Actually yeah, that's probably another reason I wouldn't recommend it.
I remember thinking right at the end, after all these girl he'd killed, all he got was that?! A little freakin' tumble? I expected burning in a fire at the very least.
I think not finding the body probably had some kind of message about not needing everything to be happy or something, but I don't care, I wanted a happier ending!

Gotta say Bubba Ho-Tep. I love it, but I've learned to not even try to recommend it. People start getting weird looks when I mention "Elvis Presley and John F. Kennedy, played by prominent African American actor Ossie Davis", they're all but lost when I mention it takes place in present day, and I rarely get a chance to even get to the mummy before they stop me and tell me they're not interested.

But seriously, Bubba Ho-tep. Bruce Campbell as an aging Elvis. If you haven't seen it, SEE IT!

While it is indeed a fantastic film and one of my absolute favorites, it's a bit hard to recommend simply since it's definately not a film for the faint of heart. I mean, I'm the kind of person who doesn't squick easily at all, yet several scenes in that movie made me feel rather queasy the first time I watched it.
Especially the entirety of Tetsuo's transformation. Dear god was that scene ever gruesome and horrifying *shudder*...

Oh Hai Scde2.

Again, i havent really 'watched' this film (Although I saw the nostalgia critic's review of it, so i know the basic gist of the story and how bad the film is) but I think it would be fun to watch it. Just for the experience.

I mean, a cult classic's a cult classic, right?
The Room is a freaking masterpiece.
It's a movie so atrocious, it's genius.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang - Hilarious, but definitely not a family movie. I did, however, make all my friends watch it. And it has Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer in it

Dexter - I know it is a tv show, but whatever. At first I felt horrible for watching it cause, you know, you are voting for murderer, and a brutal one at that. It is an awesome show, though, so whatever. I was a bit hesitant to recommend it to anyone, though, until I found out that most of my friends/brother have already seen it. Definitely not a parents show though.

Hmm, I think I might have to say The Fountain, the 2006 Darren Aronofsky film that everyone forgets. While visually astonishing, emotionally heart-rending and featuring the traditional incredible Clint Mansell soundtrack, the overall story ended up being interesting but ultimately confusing and somewhat disappointing (the trailer was also somewhat misleading). While I can't say I wouldn't recommend it to anyone (I obviously liked it or I wouldn't be mentioning it in this thread) it's definitely not a film for everyone.

Here's the trailer:
I think it's actually one of the most heart-breaking and powerful movies ever made. You're definitely right about the advertising being misleading though...the movie isn't even really a scifi. >_<
Well, it's less about the sci-fi elements and more to do with the fact that
the entire 1500 section about Tomas the Conquistador is fictional.
Possibly. It's hard to tell.
