Well Angerwing, I like you so I have to inform you that by supporting the eastside you are throwing your lot in with... Victoria

Is that really what you want?
Geelong, AFL and the Eureka Tower. It's not all bad :)

Given the time I've spent having my belongings searched in customs in general, I don't think I'd be any more annoyed that they wanted to search my laptop. Last time I had to empty every bag I owned for inspection. Coming into the US. In my US Army uniform.
Well I can sorta understand that. I mean military personnel have access to a wide variety of possibly classified materials or dangerous substances that individual soldiers may or may not know are considered illegal in civil society outside their respective bases and barracks. But if you're a soldier I'm pretty sure you get red tape everywhere else so you'd be used to it by now :p

Australian customs can be a little tricky if you're a foreigner, but thats because of AQIS largely. As an island continent we don't wish undue infection of the public nor the introduction of new flora and fauna to effect the ecology and populace.

Disease is a hard thing to protect against, but we could do better against pests. Personally I've been a proponent of lightly 'misting' foreigners with antiseptics and a mild herbicide priori to leaving the aircraft. Nothing that will damage people's pride (or health), but substantial enough to some unwanted pests that have hopped on for the ride.

If anything it will make your trip feel more sci-fi like as your pass decontamination :p

He isn't Attorney General any more. He stepped down after the "Requiring full names and addresses to comment on political shit on the internet" affair.
That's only part of why he 'stepped down'. That and a few other RAMPANT ACTS OF MONUMENTAL STUPIDITY meant he'd become a political liability, and considering the massive swing against the ALP in SA, it would have cost his factional group far too much political capital to fight to keep him as AG when both the Premier and Deputy Premier/Treasurer knew they were possibility facing similar challenges within the party. Atkinson was 'encouraged' to step down, in that he was given the chance to quit the post rather than just having it yanked away from him during the post-election caucus.

I'm moving to Melbourne Australia to live there for 6 months because of my mom's work
Is there anything i should know about living in Australia?
(I currently live in the United States)
My friend (also an American) moved to AUS 2 years ago and these are some of the things he told me he has said:

-You will not get Australian humor right away (this is what he said)

Kif said:
If you see an animal, any animal... run. They all want to kill you, especially drop bears.
According to my friend "Drop Bears" are the funniest thing in AUS.

I.E.

-Everyone is really laid back
-College starts at 11th grade and then University after 12th
-You have to get different license plates when learning to drive. "L" plates
-Your internet will be very slow and downloads will be a pain
-Games are very expensive
-You USA consoles will NOT work in AUS
-More people have PS3 than 360's
-It never rains as much as you want it to

and that is all I can remember him telling me.

Oh yea one more thing! If you see someone with a Fanny Pack, don't use the word "fanny" it has a different meaning in AUS than it does in the States.

Hope this helps.
I'll elaborate a bit on these.
-College starts at 11th grade and then University after 12th
That 'Colledge' is called TAFE, you can start it whenever.
You have to get different license plates when learning to drive. "L" plates
They aren't different license plates, they are little signs. You put one on the front of the car and one on the back. After you get your driver's license you will have 'P' plates. The amount of time you have them for varies from state to state.

-More people have PS3 than 360's
I'm pretty sure this is wrong. I only know like 3 people that have PS3s and well over fifty that have 360s.

Oh yea one more thing! If you see someone with a Fanny Pack, don't use the word "fanny" it has a different meaning in AUS than it does in the States.
In Australia 'fanny' means vagina but no one over the age of about 8 uses the term 'fanny'.
This is just what my friend told me. He is from Canberra so it may be different there, who knows? I am just a silly American XD

It's hot, there's a lot of poisonous animals and the government hates people who play games.

That's all i can think of at the moment.
You mean one Attorney General who dislikes games and who is not going to be Attorney General for too much longer.
Yes. Perhaps once he finally steps down and leaves the country/continent of Australia will finally have the gaming peace they deserve.
You guys should probably know he's been gone since the start of April.
I did not know that. Thank you for the update.

I was once kidnapped by an Australian hottie, she held me to ransom and told my parents we were boyfriend and girlfriend!, but I had a plan what I did was on that fateful night I dropped breadcrumbs from my pockets, so once I managed to escape her evil lair (that wasn't hers as be the laws of Aussies, they rent "lairs") I could safely return home by following the breadcrumbs. The beauty of my plan! Australians can't see bread therefor my means of escape was invisible to her! HAHA I WON!

Seriously, ever seen an Australian eat a ham Sandwich?, no of course you haven't they just see ham!

Oh awesome, I live in Melbourne. Make sure you learn how to pronounce it right before you get here, you'll get shit if you get it wrong.
Is it like melbun? I don't know.

I want to move to Aus aswell (just to be like a certain hate filled person) but it's going to costs loads, £10,00 or something just for the visa.

My friend used to want to go to Australia. Then she saw an article about deadly spiders that usually live inside toilets and bite people who sit on them. She doesn't want to go there anymore.

Remember that every animal except for some of the sheep are very poisonous and out to get you.

Instead may I suggest New Zealand?

This post not in any way paid for by the New Zealand tourist board

Expect a lot of over-priced games, shrimp barbecues, and a crazy man with a trilby hat obsessively playing Silent Hill 2 thirty times in a row.

I completely agree obviously, I was just putting out the "official reason" to educate people who didn't know he was gone.

If an animal isn't poisonous it is most likely delicious. Even the poisonous one aren't that bad too.

Don'ts;
- Try too hard to impress
- Openly like soccer
- Drink VB, that shit is gross
- Buy a Freo or Collingwood gersey

Do's
- Buy a Hilux, Land Cruiser. Patrol, Statesman, Commodore, Falcon or Fairlane (preferably not the Commodore or Statesman, they are rubbish because they are Holdens)
- Buy a West Coast Eagles gersey
- Spell 'colour' with the 'u'
- Be careful you are in Victoria, the lamest state in Australia

Other notes
- They are called 'prawns' not 'shrimp'
- We do have a really cold winter here, especially in places like Melbourne
- Fords are better than Holdens

EDIT: thanks keepitclean
And most importantly
Western Australia is the best bit
More donts:
dont mix up aussie rules with football
eat humans

more do's: buy a essendon gersey
-have fun your in victoria the BEST state in australia
-try not to laugh at our accent, games (Aussie rules football) or anything else people dont like it for some reason.... (aussie rules sucks)

other notes: fords are way better then holdens indeed
east is best so your lucky where your going
