I wonder how Americans feel about their tax money being wasted on keeping rich companies richer, while they are being denied welfare, and basic healthcare

didnt you get the memo? Pirates are terrorists. They are trying to destroy the awesome USA!!! by refusing to pay the big corporations, so its a matter of national security.

Hehe, it seems like everyone really is fighting for this add-on mainly used for pirating. The "freedom of speech" excuse is a good one, but I can see through it just fine. Lets be honest here, lets quit the denying, there really is only two reasons why you don't want this addon taken down.

1. You're a pirate

2. You a rebellious person who likes to root against the established government.

Not you're fault either way, it's a societal thing.
3. You are a person that see how corrupt the government is and its only a matter of time before the entire world looks like china. Except it will be owned by the big corporations.
It's ok, paranoia and denial are natural parts of today's society. I have a deathly fear of having my throat slit and a paranoia of filthy hobos mugging me. You have a dilution of living under a totalitarian government. In fact your denials seem to be not quite as severe as mine, but the good news is eventually we'll both grow out of it.

Yep cause those laws that help us catch those damn pirates have been successful. As far as I know there are two people that have been convicted of piracy (by that law) and since that law got passed all our ISP have started to delete all their logs so they cannot hand out anything and loose costumers, and do you know who really need to those logs to see which people have been looking at child porn and such?

The police.

It's not really far fetch to say that big corporations will affect a lot of laws and considering bribing somebody is pretty much legal in USA it will only become worse and soon internet privacy will not exist. The fact that Department of Homeland security is already pulling down website which helps pirates only shows how far it has gone.

I actually trust my government somewhat but considering that we are pretty much being forced to make laws by USA makes me hate USA more and more for every law that is passed.

He doesn't have a fear of totalitarian government, he has a fear of totalitarian corporation that have more power than the government, and have more control in our daily lives than the government. He's not paranoid, You are, unless you are a hobo, than that's understandable.

considering we have a law that makes it legal for the government to spy on all internet/phone trafic that goes thru sweden (Including Norway since their lines goes thru Sweden) So I'm well aware there really is no internet privacy left, but considering for every year that goes by more and more laws is being passed by big corporations is quite insane.

That you actually can sue somebody by just having proof that somebody from that ip adress connected to x server is completely insane and really shouldnt be legal.

I agree, that is insane, especially since that internet is becoming a necessity for a lot of its users.
I guess some of us escapists may have to run for government and do something about it.

OT:Even if the remove the addon another will get made and even if there isn't there will be plenty of ways of finding the new domains.
I wasn't even siding with them, just stating. And yeah, America can pretty much do whatever it wants, who's going to stop them? No one. Obviously they wouldn't go crazy but if they did, you couldn't do much.
Yeah cause USA is going to start invading other countries just cause we aint their *****. And fun fact do you know what will happen with USA if china & rest of the world would stop buying your stuff?
world depression since the US would return the favor?

Don't kid yourself, America is as much gummed up in the works as any other group. We may be slowly killing ourselves, but hopefully we'll recover. It's wrong for this to be done.

@AMERITARDS: America does NOT have the political clout it used to back during the cold war, so stop drinking the cool aid. So no, if people like say.... The British decided they didn't like a site being pulled down by the DHS, it would stop being pulled down.

Yeah it also a very fucking bad idea of USA to try to force laws on other countries.

It threaten the national security since american companys "looses" money.

"The seizures occur as the U.S. government is in the process of passing the somewhat controversial Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act, which was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee in mid-November. COICA, if passed, would allow the government to suspend a website's domain if it was "dedicated to infringing activities," and some are saying it's in conflict with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The DMCA allows infringing websites to be absolved from responsibility if they remove infringing content when notified. COICA would also create a blacklist of foreign websites that U.S. ISPs would be required to block, negating the effect of piracy websites located outside of the U.S."

I don't buy it. They have to have a better justification than American companies losing money. I know the FBI is under the umbrella of DHS, and I guess the FBI is the organization that would be responsible for conducting an investigation of the companies that are torrent proprietary content. But still... seriously... DHS... for torrents? Don't they have more important shit to worry about?

Apparently not. Us government seems to only do the bidding of the big corporations these days.

I'm siding with Mozilla on this one. Mostly because I love freedom of information, hate censorship, and believe that my government (USA) is run by massive idiots.

Nice to see this. In my line of work (corporate attorney) I see far too much deference afforded to government agencies and too often these "requests" are treated as unquestionable requirements. If it's legit and legal, obey, but if it's just them throwing their weight around, they need to be called on it. No need to help them create their de facto police state.

This is troll, yes?
Cause, if not - must be Kim Jon Ill, Mao, or Stalin in disguise.

No AMERICAN - who support the US Constitution would be a fan of the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. A.C.T 2 - unless they're traitors.
They are most certainly a troll and you fell into their trolly trap. People who seek attention should be given none.

That summary is of course referencing the poster being fine with Gitmo but not internet pages getting dropped.
