I have always been a U/B type of person. Yet, i can build a mono-blue deck and win against any of my friends (using only standard). A good tip is to find out what you like in a deck: for me it was either being an artificer (I went undefeated against my friends using Esper), a Jace (original)-Lilana combo (mind control - not the card - and death, good combo), or a mono-blue Jace deck (i find that I love to trick my oppenet). Once Zendikar and Worldwake came out, I was a blue-green landfall style.

After that, I found what I could never loose with: a mono-blue deck. Anyone heard of Dimir of Ravinca, now you can build them again without using any Ranvica.

Remember that people: build several test decks, try on your friends, and see which you like best.

Btw, I have never played in a tournment, but that is my view on blue being hidden by every other color (expect black that somehow told me to use blue). I started when Eventide was out, without Alara

Alright, since nobody else is gunna say it, im gunna say it.

All of you blue guys out there are getting pissy and whiny because you cant dominate everyone with your mono blue decks loaded with counterspells anymore. I think the biggest thing you guys need to realize is this:

First of all, blue has on average been the most powerful color throughout the history of magic up until recently. But why is this? Well, MTG is a TCG that has always emphasized strategy and planning over just loading your deck with the best cards, most powerful cards or most expensive cards. If we look at the strengths and weaknesses of each color though, the base attributes of the color blue in magic best fit in with this philosophy of strategy over power. So by just assigning Blue the attributes of "Intelligence" and "logic", you are already giving all blue cards a 1-up over all of the other cards by default because playing mtg with more strategical cards will give you the greatest chance for success.

As of recent though, MTG has made a bigger shift towards power playing and alpha-striking, but why is that such a bad thing? Thats what Green emphasizes. When you're playing a green deck, the best thing you can hope for is an alpha strike with five 7/7 fatties out there. Why shouldnt colors like green get theyre day in the sun?

Plain and simple, the reason that MTG is so successful is because nerds buy the product, and play the game. Lets not forget this important point people. Because MTG has always championed strategical, intellectual play, it has given nerds an outlet where they can be a champion at something in their lives. And when the style of play moves towards more a more power oriented, riskier style of play, the nerds have nothing anymore. The cant beat people solely with their brains as easily any more. Nerds are losing the only thing they have, and theyre not happy about it.

I personally think the shift away from blue domination is a good thing, because it opens up for different styles of play to dominate other than highly strategical decks, and allows for a more riskier style of play to have its chance in the limelight. This is going to open the game up to a wider audience and make the game more exciting overall. Lets not forget, in the end, MTG is a card game, and there should always be plenty of room for a person to be good at it playing balls out.

Alright, have at me. Tear me to Shreds!!
