There was a game sorta like that, it was called Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. There was a grenade called a Recruiter Grenade that, if an enemy player got to close to it's blast, would be forcibly switched to the other team.

Title and topic are two different things >.>

I like games to have the option of no respawn or respawn

I actually prefer no respawn, or limited lives because peopel tend to be more careful that way, and it's harder to camp a respawn point for EXP

I do enjoy no respawns sometimes but I usaully prefer respawning.
I also need respawning when I play section 8 so that I can drop in from space and land on the guy who killed me ;)

Infection.

It's been a game mode in Halo since the beginning.
Oh, cool. I've only played TDM once on Halo multiplayer, the idea just came into my head, and I know COD and Battlefield don't have anything like it, which is weird because I think the fast paced nature of it would really suit COD
It's a custom game mode playable in CoD, but only in private matches, not in matchmaking.

Dang. I hope they add that to the playlist. They did say if a mode gets popular enough, it can be added. Which one already has.

Yes, i do. Then again, the only multiplayer shooter i play is TF2 and i spend most of my time on PropHunt and Saxton Hale modes; Both of which are non-respawn types.

However, i do enjoy the regular last team standing mode every now and then.

Well the biggest reason for me dying in deathmatches is someones spawning behind me ... Or I spawn in front of someone ...
So I like Battlefield where you have a designated spot for the team too spawn.

I only like it in Combat Arms. A free-to-play shooter which has a few maps which are brilliant for it. It makes the game much more intense and forces you to play better, something I love. It also encourages team-work which I approve of too.

A 'No Respawn' Match? No, I don't like playing them because of all the waiting when you're the first one to die.

Of the few such matches I've played, I'm not a fan.
All it takes is one lucky, early headshot and you've lost your chance for the entire match.
I can understand the logic behind them (die once, higher tension etc..) but they're not for me.

I play games to, you know, play them.

Sitting there waiting for the match to finish so I can respawn is not playing.
I routinely play ArmA 2 with an ensemble consisting of 75 other people, and if we die, we're out until the match ends.

And yes, I've once sat and waited, while in spectator mode, because one my asshat mates flew a UH-60 with himself and fifteen other people, me included, into a mast, causing a complete main rotor loss.
Nobody walked out of that crash.

It's still worth it though. Sure, the occasional "whoopsie" can be really annoying, but the knowledge that you have to sit and wait is the next best thing to knowing that your life could end. Sorta.

That's why we make people qualify in our training sessions before they get to do anything lethally dangerous or important.

But then, I guess ArmA is a bit more... teh hardcorez, for lack of a better expression? :p

I have only seen 2 games do it well: Counterstrike, and a Counterstrike rip-off, CrossFire.

Though I would like to see it in Halo considering regenerating health and whatnot.

I always choose gametypes that have respawns. I don't have the patience to spectate, and I usually die a lot so that is pretty much all I would be doing.

For me it depends on the setting. My first extensive contact with multiplayer shooters was at a LAN party with friends. I think the no-respawn, round-based Counter-Strike is perfect for that. We had small teams of 4 each, so you never had to wait extremely long to get back into the action, and it's also no that bad to watch over your friends shoulder and shout advice at them. Furthermore, it adds a lot of nice strategic elements, because life is actually worth something and your team is actually weakened if you die. I didn't have nearly as much fun playing respawn games at our LAN parties.

I tried playing like this online, but it is much harder to cooperate. It's also a lot worse to sit out the rest of the round when you're dead, because your not having fun with friends and I'm personally less invested in the match, so spectating is also less interesting. Because of this I prefer games that don't have a lot of downtime when I play online.

When I used to play multipayer shooters on my PS2, I did like those kinds alright, or even more so games with limited respawns.
But in current-gen online gaming I always get killed in one shot by some asshole I see whiz past me as soon as I start playing. So I would hate to play a game with that setting.
