im actually very surprised that this niche has not been filled. there are some really good arcade shooters e.g cod series, there are some really good team based shooters e.g battlefield series BUT no many stealth based shooters. i have an idea to encorporate stealth into the shooter genre

the game should have a minimal hud (radar is not good for stealth) no hit detection. 3 shot kill (1 to head)

the game should feature both and attacking and defending team. attacking/defending a base surrounded by forest, jungle or snow. attackers have less troops so are forced to use stealth. defenders must balance staying in the base and patrolling surroundings looking for enemies. defenders are given more firepower but attackers are given stealthier equipment

i may be the only peron interested in something like this but i definitely think stealth needs to be considered in multiplayer shooters

It is a fine idea and would make multiplayer more difficult and strategic. But you have to think, a lot of people who buy shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefied want to play the multiplayer for what it is. You could always play stealthily. Only use knives and snipers. It makes it harder and a lot more fun.

Yeah, I try making stealth classing in all of the CoD games, but in the end, they really suffer compared to the other playstyles. I end up going back to my standard SMG rush.

This is mostly due to the shit range of silenced weaponry, thanks to the suppressor. SMGs offer you quick movement, but shit range. Assault Rifles strike a nice balance, but are better suited to other tasks. And you'd quickly run dry of ammo after a few kills, since it takes more shots to kill a target at mid range, thanks to some of the bullets falling short.

The only CoD game to really make my stealth classes work was MW2, because you could add Suppressors to LMGs, like the RPD.

Ever played the Tom Clancy Splinter Cell games? I believe 2 & 3 had competitive multiplayer.
And I know that Double Agent had it. Two teams of three, mercs and Splinter Cell. Damn fun games. Hard, but fun.

Yeah well.... reported. That was really uncalled for =/

OT: Yes, a better stealth is needed. However it would have to be a stealth only game for it to work. It's either stealth or other types of combat. One of them has to be neglected and because stealth is only 1 type it's always a bit left out.

Decent idea, but I can already hear the squealing wail of "HACKS!" When someone is legit killed. In Assassin's creed, if someone kills you, you see them jump at you, knife you, and run away, You see that they killed you legitimately.

Another concern: THink of the campers. People just sitting in their favourite tree of under their favourite log, knowing someone has to go by sometime. In the Videogame Mag, you don't see the enemy's name unless you are pointing at them for a few seconds. you can run across a whole battlefield just to be picked in the head and have to run across the battlefield again (and be picked in the head). It egts annoying.

I think in the end, You would have 4-12 players with snipers sitting in their favourite spot aiming down their sights.

Decent concept, but lots of building is needed

Yea the splinter cell games are pretty much the only ones out there. One team spies, one team guards. The guards were FPS while the spies TPS. The one on 360 kind of sucked though, but the ones on Xbox had great multiplayer. Still not sure why they removed it from conviction. Then again, I still don't get why they dropped the old conviction based around crowd stealth that looked totally awesome for what is basically a mediocre TPS with minor stealth mechanics.

i too have tried this in both MW2 and black ops, its not worth doing. these games are not designed for this play style which is a shame

Assassins Creed: Brotherhood is good as long as find people who want to play the game properly.

Closest thing I can get to a stealth class in BlOps: SMG (AK-74u, which is practically an AR) with a supressor, Ghost, any second perk, and Ninja. The only way they can find you is by actually seeing you. But it isn't that good, except for certain maps.

Your idea is awesome. But the closest thing to it right now is Splinter Cell, which doesn't focus on multiplayer (but that is a good thing), and AC Brotherhood, and that is clearly not a shooter (but it's still awesome).

I actually got a good stealth class with the silenced UMP and silenced USP with Scavenger Pro, Ninja Pro and Cold Blooded Pro. It just involved more hiding away from the main battle area to get around. But yeah making stealth classes is harder in those games and doesn't really help in anything besides free for all.

You got Sniper: Ghost Warrior.

The whole game is stealth based, since you play sniper...and every person in multiplayer plays as sniper, granted never played the multiplayer part of it =/

This is a must. Ammo count, noise metre and position (standing, crouching etc.) Radars should only be available to the attacking (stealth utilizing) team and it should work in a similar manner to the Soliton Radar in MGS3 (where enemies positions were not shown precisely, but were instead represented by their visibility and the noise they make).

no hit detection
I'm not sure that [i[no[/i] hit detection at all is the best idea, but perhaps instead a rumble from the dualshock control and some form of indicator (maybe both teams have on their HUD a representation of their body, split into torso, legs, arms and head and when hit one of them turns yellow, orange and then red). Also non-lethal weapons for added challenge for the stealth team and embarrassment for the defending team, these would have no hit detection at all but would work over time (such as a ten second delay between the dart hitting and the enemy falling unconscious).

Yes. With the features mentioned above (mixed in with multiple areas of infiltration for the stealth team) it would be inadvisable for the defending team to camp and instead set up patrols and bolster defences around the most vulnerable areas of infiltration.

This being said, the defensive team would need a few more advantages (other than sheer numbers) to level the playing field. So, things like turrets could be set up, which when disabled by the attacking team will alert the defending team. Cameras which would display in thermal.

There are is so much potential for a game like this. The problem is that the market probably isn't big enough. The appeal of Call of Duty is that anyone can pick it up, hardcore or casual, and just play. A game like this would require communication, teamwork, strategy and planning on both sides.

Personally I would love it, but I think most people wouldn't play along and just play they want to play, not for the team which could ruin it a bit.

I would mention Splinter Cell, but that only works if you play it the right way. I prefer to just run through the game and shoot everything up with my SMG.

Would be fun only it may not work as the stealth team might get rushed etc and the def. team would eventually know where is best to camp.

Although it would be very fun, stealth teams would need to have ghille suits for appropriate areas and thermals to spot snipers and enemy infantry, silenced weapons should sound as they are in reality, quite loud but no-one is sure where it came from so the emphasis is not on killing enemies and more just getting the job done (ie planting bomb, etc.).

What I'd like the see is a multi player of role playing where one team is defending a target in an area full of pedestrians and the attacking team can either sneak in through a back way or mingle with the crowds and try and slip by the guards, obviously shooting civilians is out of order and looses the round for the def team.. this game could have just a few problems...

i agree with all your points

if i remember counter strike had a camera station on one of the maps, that would be cool if you could quickly scan all the cameras. i like the turret idea too

also each player should get an item and a pair of binos. the item could be a claymore, a PDA (for checking cameras etc). a medikit (vital if the attackers have tranqs. tranqs = delayed respawn)

attacker equipment could be soliton, smoke/flash. PDA for detecting equipment and cameras (when equiped no use of weapon)

Well, eh, Uncharted 2, maybe? You can climb around and go generally unnoticed, if you're awesome.
And considering how many bullets it takes to kill you, it'd be pretty easy to run away if you get caught. Especially if they still have the AK.

Back when Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising was coming out, there was meant to be a stealthy game mode, I think. I can't say I ever got to try it out before the online died horribly, basically a small team of attackers infiltrates or whatever the larger team of defenders.

If you've never tried it, however, there's a lot of fun to be found playing conventional shooters stealthily online, Battlefield 1943 is brilliant for this, as there's objectives to capture, and plenty of foliage and cover around them. I always had fun sneaking into a place undetected with my Infantryman class, like some ninja commando, use the melee weapons to take down anyone who was there and then capture the flag.
