Ok, so I'm currently trying to decide wether or not I should buy a Xbox 360. I currently own a PS3 and a lot of games are multiplatform. So I was wondering if it would be worth the money. And also, what Xbox is really the best for me? I'm guessing an Elite since I'm planning on gaming with it (offline and online) but also trying out MS's XNA programming tool.

So, what do you guys think? Worth the extra ?250? Or should I simply stick with my PS3 and enjoy the PS3 exclusive and multiplatform games?

I'm also not quite sure if I like the Halo and GoW (Gears of War, not God of War) franchises since I've never really played them properly... However, I did really enjoy the first Fable. It's still one of my favorite RPG's, so I'd really like to play Fable 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction is also looking rather terrific...

Also, are there any other "good" exclusives for the Xbox360?

i wouldnt consider this a flame thread he already owns a ps3 and is considering a 360. god people are quick to say that.

anyway i own both and for the most part i do play my 360 more. the major thing that you will notice is how much better the online play is, and pretty soon you will start buying any games that you want to play online for the 360 over the ps3. im not a fan of halo but gears 2 and fable 2 are definately worth getting, also left 4 dead 2 comes out next month.

Just correcting that as 3 of those games are on PC, so not exclusives.
You're right but they they aren't on the PS3 wich is what he basically asked...

PC is a platform not a console so they are all CONSOLE exclusives.

I have all three consoles, and it works well for me

*BUT*

I prefer the 360 for its controller and the fact that way more of my friends are on XBOX Live than they are on PSN. Thus, the PS3, for me is effectively my PS2 emulator and allows me to get into the meaty exclusives (LBP, inFamous, Uncharted 2, etc). If you will be playing your PS3 for almost everything and only using your XBox for exclusives, your first question should be, "How good is my PC?"

There are very, very few exclusives to the 360 that don't make their way to the PC. If your primary interest is money, suping up the PC a bit might save you some cash.

Then again, gaming is a hobby, and like any other hobby, you have to collect the right tools. I bet those guys who build boats in bottles don't try to modify a coat-hanger to build the ship-part-placer, they go and buy one for 69.99 at a hobby shop. At least, the real Model Ship in Bottle Builders do. I guess there might be casual MSiBB's that do the coat hanger thing.

So I guess what I'm saying is that you should buy one. No one likes the casuals.

Yes you should get an Xbox 360.

Who wouldn't want to have the broadest range of available games possible? I myself hope to own a PS3 in the near future but I'm still quite backlogged on game for my 360 and Wii.

I'm very happy with my 120 GB Xbox 360 Elite with cool running, quiet, 12.1 A Jasper motherboard, but I doubt I would have bought it if I already owned a PS3. It just seems a bit decadent to have two. However, given that I started off with an original Xbox and still consider Halo to be one of the best games ever made (much better than the Halo 3 campaign, or ODST, or the disappointment that was Halo 2), it was obvious and inevitable to keep with the only brand that would carry the sequels (I didn't know at the time that they would be lack-lustre) - the upside is that in all cases: 2, 3 & Firefight, the multiplayer has been improved and it is for that alone that I keep coming back to the game. I recently sold my copy of Halo 3 to my brother and bought ODST as it comes with a multiplayer disc for all of the Halo 3 maps (some of which aren't available for download), despite having paid to download them originally - aarggh!

If you really are into game development get an Xbox, but I would of thought that you would be better off using Xcode on a Mac to make some iPhone games, or buy the Unity middleware which has an affordable licence on a Mac. Indie games on the Xbox don't see much money once Microsoft have taken their cut, Apple are much fairer. Also, they make you work on stuff like Internationalisation, bogging down development.

By the way, Gears of War is rubbish.

And yes, this thread smells of trying to start a console bitching session.
I'm sorry if it looks that way but I swear I don't want to start one of those stupid flame wars or be a troll. I'm just trying to decide wether or not it's worth buying an extra console.

As for the exclusives, I'm mostly into action/adventure, western RPG's (no wacky hair JRPG's), stealth games, race games and tactical shooters.

Also, how's the battery life for an Xbox controller? And what battery does it use? It is a "Xbox360" battery or something, right? Not like you have to insert AA or triple A batteries or anything, right?

And can you use Sony's PS3 headset for an Xbox360?

You need AA batteries unless you get the rechargable battery pack, which last around a day of solid playing. But you can charge while playing if you get the right kit. You won't be able to use the ps3 headset but if you don't buy the Arcade package, you should get a mic. If I didn't make things clear, quote me.

So you actually have to buy AA batteries? Wow... That's kind of a let down since those things cost "a lot" of money =/. And, what is this "rechargable battery pack"? And can you plug in a 360 controller and play like that without using batteries?

Yeah, go for it. You'll get your hands on a few good exclusives. I say you play Halo and Gears more, before making your mind up.

For the love of all that is holy, buy the battery packs. They last a good long time, and you can plug them in and keep playing while they charge, much like the PS3 ones.

Also, no, I believe you will need the MS headset for XBox, but they're not that much, so it's not a big deal. Unless you get the wireless one, I guess. That could be expensive.

As someone who didn't quite love halo 2 or 3, but still plays halo 1 on PC; ODST is a fantastic game.

As for Fable 2, that's a very excellent game. Get it.

Referring to the controllers and their supposed "lack of battery life": I have two controllers with a rechargable batter pack in each. They last for about a solid day, but you just stick them in the charger (don't get a plug & play recharger, they're shite) whenever you're not playing. Actually, get a plug & play one in case they run out of battery mid-game, but I never have to use that any more.
