"Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong and at the worst possible time"

Morning Escapist
Today I arrived into college to study for my exam repeats that start on Monday. I have been working pretty hard past few weeks and im still shit scared im going to fail. So every morning 9-4 for past month i have been here studying. Today i came in with the intention of covering one of the most important topics only to find the wifi is fucked today and i cant log on to the net from my laptop. Now I'm stuck at the schools comp with woefully slow connection, outdated programmmes and I cant access my laptop material because there is no space. And to think i got up at 6am and traveled 2 hours for this pleasure. I'm having a bad day. Whats gone wrong lately for my fellow escapists.

Also anyone who cheers me up gets good karma :D

Murphy's Law applies every day in the lab - whenever I'm trying to do something really delicate or sensitive, my TLC plate will fall silica-side-down on the floor, my labcoat will catch on the Büchi dial and turn the waterbath up to 80 degrees...nothing totally disastrous or irreparable, but just things that make my day that much more difficult...

I believe Moore's law is a variant on Murphy's Law.

That is no matter what tech you finally decide to buy, by the time you get it and have started using it all of a sudden a more advanced piece of tech appears for the same price or the tech you just bought drops in price.

I had this with my PC, built a brand new one last year, top of the line components. Then the ATI 4000 series and intel Core i7 hit the market and before I knew it I was a whole generation behind. Same with the PS3 and though I got to keep the Backwards compatibility, the price cut for the PS3 came right after any decent games came out for PS3, I could have just waited.

Apparently the best time to buy tech is always right after you actually do.

reminds me of an old insult that got slung at everyone's favourite annoyance...

OP: basically what's otherwise know as Sod's Law.
and it's true. if the internet fails here (as it did yesterday and the day before), it stays dead until the next day.
so far it's being... ok-ish. it's failed twice but come back to life :)

The thing is that Murphy's law is as flawed as possible, as far as laws are concerned. It only applies when anything does in fact go wrong. But think of all the things that could possible go wrong at this very moment. Do they all go wrong? No.

Yeah but its nice having a supernatural force for your woes. If you had to blame yourself for things going wrong it would be less fufiling to rage. SO Murphy,Sod and Moore provide us with blame figures.

*enters meditation and transfers portion of good Karma

You get karma for trying :D but if one more person says you'll be fine ill snap. Ill be fine when my result says i have passed not a minute before, until then i need the pressure to keep me on edge to perform. If i believed i was gonna be okay either way i would just go home :D

Today is a good example. My alarm didn't go off so I overslept, I couldn't find any socks to wear, I went downstairs and burned my tongue by drinking hot tea. When I was brushing my teeth I hit my gum with the plastic bit and it started bleeding. Spent ages trying to undo a knot in my shoelace, person's dog barked at me and would have bit me if the owner didn't pull it back at the last possible second. Missed my train to work, accidentally walked into a girl I didn't see, co-worker yelled at me because I borrowed something from his desk even though he borrows my stuff from mine all the time. Oh, and now my laptop keeps randomly rebooting for no reason whatsoever.

Well, about half of the PC games I used to love to play suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason one after another for the past few months.

Everytime i am in the workshop something that shouldn't happen happens....

I turned on the gas to the MIG welder and told everyone not to touch the gas, so i walk away from the welder use it and a molten blob (if you have used a MIG welder incorrectly you should know what i am talking about) needless to say it i had a bit of it go down my arm....

Not sure if thats murphys' law but the second closest is, my thinking "I hope i dont get anyone bloody tailgating me today" 5 minutes later a tailgater arrives >.>

Recently?!

I am the bloody poster boy for Murphy law!

PS: you forgot the 'at the worse possible time' part of the law. That is what makes the difference between standard bad luck and a true Murphy. Something going wrong at the time where it will do the most damage.

The past three months of my life were essentially a never ending series of that law.

It truly was a spectacular sort of hell.
Sounds rough, what went wrong?
