You're just looking in the wrong place. Find a genre of music you enjoy, then search only for that. For me, that genre is Symphonic Metal. As of now, I have a 'big 4' of terrific Symphonic Metal bands: Nightwish, Epica, Krypteria, and Within Temptation.

You can find good music, you just need to know what your definition of good is, first.
Gotta love Nightwish, as a new fan i have to ask about the hate toward the new singer, she was pretty good in amaranth. Also escape the fate. Wooo.

OT: You only just realised?! Try to ignore the charts or anything claiming to be "popular" music. Its far easier to then find good music.

I tend to listen to electronica: Pendulum, Justice, Daft Punk, Infected Mushroom...
but I listen to some rock and metal too. It depends what you're into.

Publicly funded alternative radio, no commercials, sub-mainstream alternative music with occasional forays into underground hip-hop, electronica, folk, etc., plus the DJs play pretty much whatever the fuck they want so classic rock, funk, all that. Best part is you can totally hate the song you're listening to without having to change the station because something completely different is next.

We're lucky here in Minnesota.

so im looking to listen to some new good music....unfortunately there is none to be found. so then i looked onto youtube just for a small glimpse of hope. first names that come up are justin beaver, lady gaga, rihanaana, and miley cyrus. it then occurs to me that no one sent me a letter or an email to Music's funeral. How long has it been dead, seriously? it really saddens me that the last good band that i know of is Tenacious D. Any thoughts on this?
FanDumb is a horrible thing. Lots of people loved Tarja, and for good reason. When they canned her in favor of Anette, there was an obvious rift created. Because Anette wasn't Tarja, people hated her.

Honestly, there isn't a single song off of Dark Passion Play that I don't like. Anette is a good singer; her only fault (In the eyes of many fans) is that she simply isn't Tarja.

Pop=vomit.
Radio=vomit.

You need to dig deeper. As a devout metalhead I'd reccomend checking out Mastodon or Fear Factory, but I'd never say music is dead-mainstream music's taken a few kicks and the occasional knifing, yeah, but I doubt music ever dies.

I already listen to two of them, but I haven't gotten around to Epica, and never heard of Krypteria.

If you like your symphonic metal with heavy doses of fantasy imagery, I might recommend Rhapsody of Fire.

I'm fairly certain I've already been recommended that band; maybe even by you.

Epica has been terrific throughout all their Albums, and Krypteria is quite good, though they're at their best in the first few albums.

Yeah Daft Punk! there there you go.

@shadowstriker86, I can't stand Tenacious D so we probably have very different ideas about what constitutes "good music". Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you.

Also, who needs new music when we already have Rush? ^_^

Breaking Benjamin is my current favorite. They're sort of a hard alternative rock/metal group. listen to: Blow Me Away, Diary of Jane, So Cold, Dance With the Devil, Hopeless, Away, Until the End, Had Enough, and I Will Not Bow. Those are my favorites but I like pretty much all of their songs. Also they have a much more mellow song called Forget It which is pretty calm and relaxing.

I BTW I also think Tenacious D is awesome! My favorite line in any song comes from them: "What's your favorite dish? I'm not gonna cook it but I'll order it from ZANZIBAR!"

Not sure why that's my favorite but it is lol.

Heh, probably. I seem to recall giving a few such recommendations (were you the one looking for metal bands with female lead vocalists?).

Epica has been terrific throughout all their Albums, and Krypteria is quite good, though they're at their best in the first few albums.

..ooh, gothic!

*listens to past first chorus*

Slower than I usually go for, but still nice. I'll listen to the whole thing when I wake up (quarter-past one in the morning, here).

...oh hell yes. I'd better finish listening in the morning, or I'll be too wired to sleep!

Yea, that was me; I'd prefer to have a 'Big 5' instead of a 'Big 4'.

Krypteria is very different from my other 3 bands, but they're still very good. They tend to use Latin a lot, whether for the chorus or just their full song.

As for Epica, the singer is a Soprano like Tarja, and they have a very heavy sound throughout, along with a guy who adds 'death grunt' type singing into the mix.

Music is far from dead. You taste in music is just not matching the mass population right now, and it may never. The mass majority of the music I am listening to right now is not played on the radio.

I really hate to say this but one of the things I have done is check MySpace. What I mean is find a band that you know you like, and see who is in their top 10 friends. Most likely other bands, maybe check them out.

You can also do the same thing with Pandora, although your results may vary. If you are old enough, don't forget to check the club-scene. Go to a club on a night when they are playing the music you want to hear and talk to other people about what they are listening to.. Actually you could tell us what genre's and a few bands and I bet we could come up with a dozen or so new groups you haven't listened to before.

Transatlantic, Pendulum, The Prodigy, Rush, Porcupine Tree, The Herd, Iced Earth.

It's not dead, just has a massive tumor.
