this is the song I have been playing recently to Fallout New Vegas. It is awesome.

I also play this for racing games.

I think these two are the best so far, the lyrics are kind of annoying, but it's quiet enough that I think I can filter it out.

(When playing quake 3 or halo at my school)

1 Go to grooveshark
2 Type in rise against
3 Select songs
4 Time to pwn every n00b connected to the school network

Seriously, everyone goes onto quake 3 after I get on a fifteen killstreak on Halo...

And I usually win in quake 3, but their are 2 people in my class with matched skill...

(Note that everyone in my school except for me and 2 others who use the arrow keys instead of ASWD... N00bs...)

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross made the soundtrack for The Social Network, and it's pure fucking gold for working and thinking.

I know this is NEVER going to get taken seriously, but I do highly suggest classical music or opera. I know it sounds like an odd suggestion, but trust me on this one. It particularly has effect when working. Playing games...sometimes, but not often.

One of the best pleasures in my life is easing back to write something with my big headphones on and getting lost in my own world as the notes of Le Nozze di Figaro or La Traviata (just 2 examples) wash over me. I don't have a CLUE what's going on in the damn things, but the emotion stays there and really inspires me in whatever I'm doing.

Plus, gunning people down while listening to Beethoven's 9th Symphony NEVER gets old.

You could probably find the songs without the lyrics on the internet.
oh, I forgot to add this. This is calming for me.

I find that if I'm in the mood to be seriously gaming or knock out the work thing, this is what gets me motivated...

When I do homework, play games on my computer, surf the web, or basically do anything I usually have pandora playing music in the background. As I write it's playing my primary station "background stuff" which consists mostly of the soundtracks from Final Fantasy, as well as Halo.

I'm getting sick of listening to the same songs over and over again and was wondering if the escapists could recommended some new music to add.

I like music with no lyrics (or atleast none in english), that goes well as background noise. The Final Fantasy soundtracks are great for this. If you could reccomend me any music to listen to while I work I would greatly appreciate it.
Sigur Ros (they sing in a made up/icelandic language)
Explosions in the Sky (great instrumental)
This Will Destroy You (similar to Explosions)

If you like electronic music then you should listen to Four Tet. Fucking brilliant stuff.

For more bassy stuff, listen to Little People and Bonobo.

I feel awful if I don't listen to SOMETHING while gaming/working. Really, I'll listen to anything that I'd listen to otherwise, which is hard to sum up in just a few songs.

These are good, what are the artists' names so I can add them to my pandora?

Hirano Yoshihisa for L's Theme (and the rest of the Death Note soundtrack i believe)

Sugimori Masakazu for the rest, he did the soundtrack for all the Ace Attorney games... Which if you haven't got, you should totally go and buy them! Available now on Amazon!

The one thing that popped into my head when I read the topic title was:

System of a Down, while playing RPGs like Oblivion.

Its such a clash, I love it

For working I listen to Elmer Bernstein, Ornette Coleman, Erik Satie, and a myriad others but largely stuff from the Baroque.

My recomendation is you listen to Vodafone FM. The Portuguese one though... I don't know about other countries... I know it's Portuguese but they rarely talk! There is quite a bit of Portuguese music but most Portuguese musics are sung in english so I think you can all enjoy them. It's mostly indie music... From time to time a bit of hiphop but it's not too often (thank god).

Go to http://www.vodafone.fm/ and press "Clica para ouvir" (Press to play). It opens a small popup window for the player. The added bonus is that it shows the artist and track of each music which for a broadcast radio is quite rare (at least in Portugal).*

As for specific bands... I've been listening to a lot of Them Crocked Vultures and White Stripes.

*If anyone actually follows this link tell me what you think of the radio as I'm curious.. Extra points for anyone willing to comment on any Portuguese song.
