I find a lot of classical music is very good to play while studying. It's not too intrusive.

well as mentioned a lot, instrumental music is what works the best
and, in my mind, some easy-to-ignore and minimalistic lyrics to occasionally stimulate your brain a bit more

another rather obvious thing is the volume.. turning it down just right works wonders

anyway, when it comes to artists this is what I personally recommend =)

Carbon Based Lifeforms
ambient downbeats at their best (to me at least)
Central Plain from their album Hydroponic Garden is a good example

Bob Holroyd
he simply makes beautiful music..
do take a listen to Hollow Man (which is both a track and the name of a truly great album)

good luck with the studying fellow students

Civ IV game music?

I do okay with some more dance/techo/trance type stuff. Traci Lords or Machines of Loving Grace have some nice songs for studying.

But really, I prefer music that is in a language other than English, so it doesn't interfere with whatever I am reading or writing.

Shakira's Spanish stuff is pretty good. Pizacatto Five. T.A.T.U.'s Russian stuff.

Think of musical styles you like, then google that style and bands from other countries.

I like to work to Oasis or The Beatles (especially I Am The Walrus) - basically the lighter pop rock bands. Dream Theater are a good choice too; some less energetic ones I can recommend are The Count of Tuscany and Octavarium.

It's proven that listening to Mozart somehow increases your concentration and ability to think faster and more efficiently, I haven't tested it myself, but what's the worst that can happen?
You create sleeper agents bent on world domination, just as Mozart planned.

Look up Vitamin String Orchestra. They do cover songs of about anything only with a classical style. Especially love their cover of Progenies of the Great Apocalypse.

Also the band Rachels (Album and song Cypress Branches).

Clair de lune by Claude Debussy. It's incredibly relaxing, kinda sad at the same time but it's great to listen to.

Led Zeppelin stairway to heaven if you edit it so theres only the slow bit (like I did) it's relaxing too.

Personally, I like to listen to music from video games as there are no lyrics (with some exceptions) to distract me and the fact that they're designed to be in the background so as not to interrupt the gameplay means the music itself isn't distracting either. You might also want to try one of these:

keeps me surprisingly focused

also, who the hell is Eliza and what is she doing in my captcha?

Maybe some stuff by God is an Astronaut. Nice instrumental music with quite an atmospheric feel. Judging from some of the stuff you've listed already (particularly the Clint Mansell tracks), I think it would fall fairly nicely into your playlist.

Amon Tobin works for me. It's mostly downbeat acid jazz or trip-hop. Either that or I just shuffle all my jazz bands.

I love this kind of music. These are a couple of Immediate's more soft songs, but I find even the more intense ones are great to do homework to as long as they aren't too loud.

They make the boring homework feel much more epic.

Avoid music with lyrics, instrumental music is best for studying. And if the instumentation is distracting, dump it from the study playlist.

I personally like Yndi Halda, Balmorhea, and Explosions in the Sky
