I tend not to, unless I find the games soundtrack really annoying. Which doesn't happen very often these days.

Only certain games, mainly ones without to much dialogue or have subtitles or during gameplay don't have music (which is pretty stupid considering that during a fight scene in a movie you'd put backround music).

Just thought i'd quote you so you know. This [http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6878067.html] is why. And now you know.
I don't get it. You can play music on games with the PS3.

Pretty sure it's available RAM.

When playing multiplayer I can't have music on. I need to have the in game noise going on, 1. I talk to people (well I try its xbox live no one talks, or the word fag is used, rarely do you get real people.)2. I concentrate so much better, plus I have turtle beaches, and I'm so used to them I can't play with out them, I can tell where the bullets are coming from, or if someone is behind me.

But if I'm playing single player, and I've beaten the game before, and don't want to listen to the story, I'll have music on. I'm playing Biosk\hock(4th time I think). So Yeah I know the sotry, and that means its music time.

Question 1: yep

Question 2: Music while gaming was an oversight by Sony, sort of like an other PS3 oversight...

Yep, all the time. It's part of the reason I'm gonna start getting most my games for the XBox now (just recently got it). Being able to play Green Hill Zone while playing a stage on Sonic Unleashed just adds to the fun factor for me.

As for the type of music? Eh, mostly instrumentals.

Nope. It's because Microsofts Patent is for playing music through the console and not through the game itself. So if you get a PS3 game that can play custom soundtrack it's through the game while with 360 it's through the Console.
Huh. I guess that makes sense... guess that's why only some games have music available, they have to be pre-made to be able to play music within them.

Well. Learn something new. Thanks.

Depends on the game. If I'm playing Left 4 Dead then I'm not going to be listening to music. Now if I'm playing something like League of Legends of course I'm going to listen to music.

I listened to a lot of music while I was going for the Nier platinum trophy.
Really depends on the game, I suppose. Certain games, no matter how much I play them, I could never bear to replace the in-game music. As an example, let's throw, oh, Dragon Age: Origins out there.

Generally, though, if it's an MMO, multiplayer, or something I've played a hell of a lot of and really just wanted to play anything or I'm polishing up trophies, I'll typically feel inclined to pop up iTunes on my laptop and turn the game's music dial down.

Edit: Oh, right, original topic. Still depends on the game. Anything sweeping and potentially epic (so far as I'm concerned) for an RPG, action/adve--well, pretty much anything but a shooter multiplayer. In which case, reams of metal. MMOs get the benefit of a nice mix of everything. Hell, I'm pretty sure I've had someone ask me over Teamspeak if I was listening to Barenaked Ladies while on a raid, before.

Not often, most of the games I play are farly story heavy so distracting music isn't the best. But when it fits with the game sure I will put some music on.
