Ok so heres the story. I need new music, and instead of going into great detail of what I like, and having you give me similar types. I thought we could mix it up a bit.

What is the one band or song you can't live with out. Basically your favorite. I'm hoping this will turn into a big mixing pot of genres and bands that we can all come out of with something new. Put why its your favorite. How you find out about them.

As for me, I really like Shinedown and the song "Sin with a Grin" from their album "The Sound Of Madness." This year at school a friend let me borrow this and I found a lot of songs I like are by them and I didn't even know. I really like these guys because its heavy and each songs tells a good story. Plus there so damn hummable, yes I invented a word.

I can not live without classical music. My favorite composers are Bach, Chopin, and Scriabin.

I'm guessing you don't want this music recommended to you, but I'm just honestly answering your question.

How about some nice Southern Rock. Go look up Black Stone Cherry. I just posted two of their songs on a different thread but here is one of them.

Nope this is what the whole thread is about. I've heard of Bach but not the other two.

I have lots I can't live without, but the main ones for me are Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Brian Eno, and Tom Waits.

I heard of all three when I was still in high school, and finding some of the more important music I hadn't heard of. Brian Eno's Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) album is a current favorite, Tom Waits' Rain Dogs is one of my all-time favorites, and GY!BE's Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada is probably my favorite album of all time (it is only an EP, but the two songs contain 30 minutes worth of music).

Shinedown is pretty cool. I missed them in Tacoma last fall.

I can't live without Chevelle. My top three would have to be "Well Enough Alone," "Mia", and "Send The Pain Below." I'll be seeing them live at the end of August!

In that case, here's a taste of the other two (that sounds wrong, I know)

Chopin: you may have heard this piece before

Scriabin is a whole other story.

John Frusciante. I listen to his music a lot and every time I do, it affects me in some way. I keep re-discovering songs and it is honestly something I can't see myself ever stopping from doing.

I love a lot of different music, but I don't think I'd ever, ever be able to live if I couldn't go back and listen to Goodnight Kiss and Solitary Shell again every once and a while. This is a wonderful band all around, but these two songs in particular hold a special place in my heart.

God I love me some good classical. Helps me think and sleep at night. When I get some good almost heavy classical, little action scenes play out in my head.

EDIT: This was meant to be @AlAaraaf74 but I fucked it up.

Epica. Epica is pretty good. Oh, and then, of course, there's also Epica. Did I mention Epica?

Let's see.
Back from Cali': Slash
Blind Man: Black Stone Cherry
All Night Long: Buckcherry
Jars: Chevelle
Full of Regret: Danko Jones
Joker and the Thief: Wolfmother
The Night: Disturbed
Iron Man: Black Sabbath
Clones: Ash
Hero: Skillet

Some songs I like. I never listen to just one artist, I like some variety. But I like this kind of stuff. Most of it is technically considered hard rock, but the a lot of people discount these songs cause there's no screamy bullshit in it. So I don't know. I guess, semi-hard rock?

I'm crazy about Steve Conte. He's worked with the Japanese composer Yoko Kanno on several anime (Wolf's Rain, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex); he's the new lead guitarist for the legendary punk rock band New York Dolls; and he has his own band (Steve Conte and the Crazy Truth) as well as working with his brother John (The Crown Jewels, The Contes)

Here's Gypsy Cab. I love this song.

The Gaslight Anthem

Lucero

Brian Fallon and Ben Nichols are amazing songwriters. Musicians, not so much, but incredible songwriters.

I give you: cursive.

always vindictive, uncompromising, and jarringly honest. Their sound borrows from a lot of mid 90's underground rock bands, but Tim Kasher always finds a way to make Cursive's sound truly its own.
