To each their own I suppose. Thrash metal is about as high as my extreme-o-meter goes, after that to me it becomes unlistenable.Novskij said:BlackStar42 said:Metal is art.

And if you want to get tha specific, all music is sound. Noise is the un-interpreted vibrations in the air before entering your reverbrating, and being interpreted as sound by the brain.TheRightToArmBears said:Well if we're going to be like that about it all music is me hearing noise.Novskij said:Its not noise, its you hearing noise.TheRightToArmBears said:Just because I don't like it doesn't mean it's not music.
But really, really, really heavy metal is just noise. Once you get past the level of Devildriver it starts getting a little shit.
What I'm saying is that when you play notes that quickly, that low, and that distorted it just turns into a mess. Not all really heavy metal is like that (I don't like it, but still), but a large proportion of it is. Which is a shame, because lots of them have the potential to be really damned good.
Read the damn post again. And possibly read this one too. Hammerfall and Iron Maiden aren't "really, really, really heavy metal". Surely there must be a point where if you play music really heavy it becomes noise? Wouldn't you agree that a song that is 600bpm and distorted as hell is just noise to human ears?
Celtic_Kerr said:Iron Maiden is Noise? Listen to those bands? Sure they're power metal, but with HUGE heavy metal influences... Lyrics and meanings...
Gotta say I love the "Just because you don't like it doens't make it music... But heavy metal is just noise"
So you're confusing heavy metal with metalcore and death metal. Got it.
Celtic_Kerr said:And if you want to get tha specific, all music is sound.
