This year I decided to go 'back' to listening to what the radio had to offer, it was boring to say the least. I didn't listen to much music in 2013 (probably will try to in 2014). I was a fan on the Pop Danthology this year (which is good because DJ Earworm's mashup was crap). This year was just filled with boring 'indie' romance songs or terribly underwritten and personality less EDM.

I was also really looking forward to Lady Gaga's "ARTPOP" and wasn't left disappointed (OK I was at one point, Tracks 5-10 are very, VERY hit and miss for me). The stand out tracks for me being Applause, Aura, Gypsy, G.U.Y, Dope and MANiCURE (though they aren't my favourites).

I was also in love with Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, and thank whatever's up there that "Get Lucky" was a hit, it was one of the few not boring hits of the year.

There are also some songs I'd like to mention but won't really link. There's the Cedric Gervais remix of Lana Del Ray's "Summertime Sadness" (the radio version is much better than the full version, oddly enough), Zedd's "Clarity", Icona Pop's "I Love It", Ke$ha's "C'Mon" and "Crazy Kids" (why were these NOT hits?), Lorde's "Royals" (kinda), Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop", Pitbull and Ke$ha's "Timber" and many more I'm missing out.

This is the non US version (which is apparently better? So sorry if it wont play)

It's only better if you like having an extra 16 seconds of footage of a worn down house (which I guess contributes to the message) but otherwise it's a little padded in that regard.

Oh, man! This year was so exciting in music. Like, I'm having to go through my playlists from this year and picking out the best.
First of all, Iron and Wine's Ghost on Ghost is gorgeous and crazy and such a weird departure from where the band was with its previous album and I love it.
CHVRCHES stole my heart with The Bones of What You Believe, with its bizarrely peppy track about murder, "Gun".
Woodkid, despite his initially grating accent, quickly grew on me, and his album The Golden Age has become among the most-played on my iPod.
MS MR dropped Secondhand Rapture and I fell in love instantly.
Son Lux's Lanterns came into my life and left my emotionally devastated forever.
Bastille's Bad Blood dropped in March, and I actually thought it had come out towards the end of 2012, and had to google it to see if I was allowed to put it here.

Other music I've liked, but not enough to give them a write-up
-Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros' self-title album
-Poliça's Shulamith
-Parov Stelar's The Art of Sampling
-Los Campesinos! with NO BLUES
-Daughter's If You Leave

I don't care what you think about me? I loved "Treasure" by Bruno Mars.

I haven't searched for new music much this year. I've been pretty much into remixes of a few songs and kept searching for some old indie-rock of 2000-2010 era. Guess I could spare a few hours searching for some new albums.

This song from Frozen was really good and the only one I can remember more than just fragments of.
Other than that I dunno. I'm a bit behind on music so I mostly find stuff I like and get it, sometimes it's within the year sometimes it'as really old.

2. Head of the Herd - By This Time Tomorrow
3. Ylvis - What Does the Fox Say
4. Pitbull - Timber

This is one song off the top of my head that I think is amazing. Can't stop listening too it, so it's the only thing I can think of at the minute.

If you are into alt rock (which I admit is kind of a blanket genre), Lorde and Bastille are some good new artists. Cage the Elephant released a new album which is good but not great, and AM by the Artic Monkeys is one of the better albums I've heard in a while.

Yeah, most people seem to be in agreement that this was finally the album that got Children of Bodom back on track. Regardless of whether or not it actually did that for them, it was still a great album overall.

As usual, Amon Amarth put out a great album. Personally, I'm still trying to determine if this is better than Twilight of the Thunder God.

Finally, Live at the End of the World from Alestorm. Even as someone who doesn't like live albums most of the time, I actually did enjoy this one.
pretty much these two (personally it doesn't top twilight if the thunder god but it's a close second)
and throw in anna murphy's solo album cellar darling and you sum up 2013 for me
I would love to have time 2 now but I have to wait another year for that *grumble grumble*

I have completely stopped listening to radio, so I don't really know what came out this year. There is exactly one decent radio station where I live and it's hit and miss.

This year I've mostly been listening to various anime and game soundtracks. The RWBY soundtrack came out this year and that's pretty great, so I guess that counts?

EDIT: Oh I forgot! Within Temptation's new single which features the one and only Tarja of Nightwish fame!

Tarja looks kinda confused in that video lol.

Well I guess I better contribute:

If songs from anime count, then I put forward the fifth ending to Hunter X Hunter 2011 Hyori Ittai by Yuzu. I just can't stop listening to it, especially the full version.

Mostly this.

<spoiler=Open Eye Signal, from Immunity by Jon Hopkins><youtube=Q04ILDXe3QE>

Also, I really like "Demons" by Imagine Dragons. It's way, WAY better than the migraine-inducing much-ado-about-nothing that was "Radioactive".

For me, 2013 has been a pretty good year musically. New albums from Avenged Sevenfold, Biffy Clyro, Birds of Tokyo, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Cage The Elephant, Editors, Franz Ferdinand, Grouplove, Kings of Leon, Midnight Juggernauts, The Naked and Famous, Paramore, Pearl Jam, Placebo, The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, White Lies, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and !!! that I've thought were reasonably good.

Top 5 albums of the year have definitely been

5. Dead Letter Circus - The Catalyst Fire
4. Arctic Monkeys - AM
3. Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
2. Karnivool - Asymmetry
1. British India - Controller

Fantastic albums all of them.

Also very much liked the new single Werewolves from Calling All Cars, definitely builds my excitement for their album due next year.

I'm working on a top 10 for my blog right now. Should be up later today in fact!

But... why? It's just so bland! I mean, it's basically "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC where they reference an Evil Dead line. I mean, did you listen to the full album? There's being inspired by someone, and then there's skinning them alive and trying to pass off as them while wearing their skin! I'm not even against Avenged Sevenfold, I love their earlier albums. Avenged Sevenfold remains one of my favourite albums to this day, but they dropped the ball on this one.

Just listen to this, the Metallica vocals work way too well.

You're allowed to like what you want to like, just exercise a bit of objectivity.

EDIT
I finished my blog post! And [a href="http://justmoremusic.blogspot.ca/2013/12/top-10-of-year.html"] you can read it right here if you want![/a] Because maybe you want to read about someone's opinion! Or find new music! Or you're bored! Or high! Or something else so I can keep this style of sentence going! Maybe!

I liked pretty much every song on the new Daft Punk album except Get Lucky. And even then, repeat listenings has had it grow on me.

2013 was a fucking amazing year for music. (Note that these are from the albums that were released in 2013, a few of them may have featured as singles late 2012.)

This year I found little to like. 2013 will go into history as the most boring year in music history, being even more boring than 1986, and that year was BOOOOORING!
It was only a boring year if you didn't pay attention to what was going on. Tons of good music came out this year, as well as very new and innovative projects. If you really think this year was boring, then you weren't paying attention enough.
I was mainly talking about pop music, stuff that makes it onto the charts, you know? And while there may be some nice things come from the indie bands and the underground, those don't matter on the grand scheme of things. And while last year was a very interesting and weird year for pop, this year was just dull, boring middle of the road, easy listening crap. Like a beige avalanche burying you in suck.

Since carcass have already been mentioned (and rightfully so, surgical steel was a masterpiece) I'll go with Revocation.

They dropped a new album this year, and it's probably their best work to date.

Man, I agree with a lot of these, but I feel I must make two additions:

-Tesseract: Altered State
For those of you not really into metal, I present thee with one of the best bits:

Then there is The Golden Age, by Woodkid, with the fantastic song I Love You

This year has been great.
