I have the radio channel Radio Rock on when I play LoTrO and anything that comes from there.

When it comes to games, I leave it to the game's score to give me musical backing. It was designed to work with the game, after all. When I'm doing other things, such as homework or studying, it depends on how intense it is. I will generally play my overall wide variety of rock/metal/jazz/classical/etc. if it's something run-of-the-mill. But if I want to feel really fancy, I'll hit up my classical list.

Nothing makes biology easier to study than a nice harpsichord sonata.

I do so love 19th-century Romantic Period music, especially operatic overtures (Die Fledermaus, Carmen, Barber of Seville, William Tell...plus Marriage of Figaro, although Mozart's not Romantic Period.)

I also really like symphonic power metal (Epica, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica...)

Although usually I just listen to a game's musical score.

This, besides teh yoko and nubuo stuff. The music the game does, helps me concentrate more on the game itself.
