The Police (I love/ want to be Sting)

Assorted songs from Kill la Kill like till my body is dry WITH the rapper as it is half the song, Blumenkranz and life fibres engage.

Why would you do that? They put a lot of effort into that soundtrack, ya know!
I hate Minecraft's music, CoD and Halo multiplayer is silent, and I'm not too fond of the battle music in Pokemon X/Y

The only game I ever put music on to play is usually Nethack. And that's only because it doesn't have any music of its own. (It'll normally be something quiet and ambient for that - you don't want to gee yourself up into making a mistake.)

Otherwise I'm more than happy to listen to the music the game came with; I'm not a developer or a sound engineer and I'm not arrogant enough to think that I could do better when it comes to setting music to a game.

I never really understood this behaviour.

I generally do it when playing MMO's, where it's just a repetitive action, usually without voice dialogue, and just the combat sounds and grunts over and over and over....and over....and over.....and over and over and over, for hours on end.
I was going to aggree with Shinji but you reminded me that when I played through The Secret World I ended up listening to this on repeat:

I'd heard it recently so it was in my head, but it just seemed to feel right with that game somehow.

It depends. Sometimes I'll start listening to podcasts (Rooster Teeth, Penny Arcade, or Dismal Jesters). Or I'll put some electronic music on

Can range from relatively mellow, if I want to zone out:

To something more heavy:

Video game soundtracks can tend to start sounding repetitive after a while. To me, at least. I'm sure people could say the same about dubstep. Either way, I get to choose my mood while playing. And that's my rationale.

I only listen to music when I play something like League or Dota 2, where the music gets grating after a while.

Usually, I just YouTube Miracle of Sound and play it in the background. I also enjoy listening to the Metal Gear Rising Revengeance soundtrack, as it gets you in the mood for something as reaction-dependant as a MOBA.

I rarely listen to music while gaming. Someone spent time making the music in the game and I'll listen to that instead.

I tend to listen to the games original soundtrack, it doesn't feel right to listen to anything else, at least to me.

Depends on the game and it's pace. Sometimes I'll listen to podcasts, too. Unless it's Metal Gear Rising. In which case, I will put the surround on maximum and revel in the stupid, early-2000s goth-boy J-Rock atmosphere.
