I got some of what is essentially elevator music in my library. I just tend to have an ear for sweet piano tones in backround music. If I'm watching a documentary and a tune catches my attention I scan the credits to see what artist it is.

Also I downloaded the whole soundtrack for the modern age off of Civilization 4 onto my mp3 player.

So I generally enjoy listening to what most people would consider boring or monotonous for up to half an hour at a time. I'd say my songs' average length is 10 minutes. Here's one song that I'm currently listening to practically on loop:

I also love sad music, like really dramatic over the top sad music. Not Fire To The Rain, that song is kind of upbeat in my opinion. For an example, this is currently one of my favorite albums (and artists):

Count me in as another St. Anger defender/apologist. It might be their most difficult album by a good distance and I'm not blind to its hinks and rough edges, but it does have a way of opening up with repeat listens.

The vast majority of the more "embarrassing" stuff in my music collection comes down mostly to artists that a) Internet tastemakers don't want to like, b) tend to divide people in the first place or c) I'm not "supposed to" listen to for whatever nonsensical bullshit reasons. Going down the list, we have...let's see: Florence + the Machine, Styx, Aerosmith, My Chemical Romance, Sara Bareilles, Kate Nash, Matchbook Romance, Death Cab for Cutie, Rush, Dream Theater, the Offspring, Against Me!, Eiffel 65. And I'll stand by all of those. With the exception of the Eiffel 65 album; aside from "Blue" (which has been the jam since 1999 and shall continue to be the jam) but aside from that song and a couple other cuts, I could really do without it.

Maybe I should just be grateful I don't have any Smash Mouth or Lily Allen to answer for right this second.

Pretty much the only one I can think of is Supertramp. Really not all that hated in my opinion.
Supertramp might not get their due respect, but I don't recall them ever being pariahs.

In the real world its definitely metal, there are just so few fans out there where I'm from.

On the internet its country music, I have seen maybe two people here that have said they liked it.
