Got linked from the rains of castamere (Yeah, I like that song) to a really random band I had never heard about before. Steam Powered Giraffe. Listened to a lot of stuff by them over the last few days until I got stuck into listening to Honeybee on repeat for most of the day (My ex left me a few months back. Still struggling to get over it cause my dad had died 2 weeks beforehand leading to a lot of confused brain) and now I am thinking "What other songs/music have people stumbled upon" and "Maybe its a good idea for me to get others to recommend me some more music." so that is this thread.

A thread of songs people have stumbled upon on songs you think others should stumble onto. Here is my contribution

The song I stumbled onto. And for a song others should stumble onto?

The attentive listened might spot a little bit of a theme going on. Now, I am currently listening to quite a lot of sad music cause reasons, but that is not to say I do not want to expand my music tastes away from pretty miserable stuff. So yeah.

Post stuff you have stumbled upon and stuff you think others should stumble upon. Lets keep it good people, I don't want this to turn into "I once heard the worst song in history" stuff, I more want "I found these guys at random and they are awesome." stuff.

I walked into the TV room when this was playing. I was incredibly lucky to walk in at that time.

I stumble across it while watching one of those dumb VH1 countdown shows. I found out about it right when I was getting out of screemo/emo music. At the time, I considered it a really big missed opportunity because it seemed to describe a relationship that I had recently moved on from.

I've stumbled across a lot of music over the years, most of them I've linked at one point or another on these forums, but another time couldn't hurt. :D

Oh boy, I'd better stop now. This list is much longer than I expected it to be...

The list is organized from lightest to heaviest, by the way. :D

Blind Guardian love! ^^^

==========
Avantasia.
Was listening one day to those channels that play music all day and are usually blank screens, when this came on.

I went out that day and bought the album.

A haunting yet beautiful song. There needs to be more electronic classical music a-la A Clockwork Orange. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8RaPexRqr8]

The Doors, man.
It was a very strange and psychedelic day when the Doors came on the radio, and those tunes and lyrics just exploded into my mind.
It was very trippy, and I loved that band ever since.

I was actually hoping that was going to be a cover of this:

Anyway, years ago when I was living in Sydney I was flicking through the radio when I stumbled upon a heavy metal station. The song that happened to be playing was:

It was the first Ministry song that I heard and I've been a huge fan of them ever since then.

If I'd bother to list everything I stumbled upon in the last months/year I'd be here writing all day - so here are just three of the most recent bands that nobody seems to know but I somehow stumbled upon anyway. Note that all of them are instrumental.

EDIT: Almost forgot Echolyn...

If you don't know it already you also might want to check out Tobias Sammets other act Edguy then [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8X7vc0ChS_s] - its also Power Metal but a little bit faster. Still also very good stuff if you like Avantasia already.

I saw some of my facebook friends having a perfectly insular conversation about Deftones. A few months and 1000+ listens later, they're one of my favourite bands.

This song... so good, man. That machine-gun riff contrasted with the clean, angelic vocals. The beautiful, poetic lyrical imagery about blood and violent sex. They should have called it "Juxtaposition: The Song".

Templeton Pek. I can't even remember how I discovered them but I'm glad I did.

Well, that's everything I can think of off the top of my head.

EDIT: Oh! I stumbled on this thread, does that count?

One day I was clicking around Youtube looking for trouble when I came across this song.

Goes with out saying that Murder by Death is now my favorite ever and so far no other has even come close to challenging them for the throne.

Like a lot of introverted, not-so-socially-comfortable types, I really grew to appreciate Devin Townsend's music once I found it. It's nice that he's so frank about his ol' nutterbutterness. I listen to this one a lot on bad days. Still working on forcing myself to buy into it's message:

Apparently the symphony above was written for the artist's daughter, who died before birth.

And then there's this piece, which starts slow and blows you out the wall. But Maslanka is perfect at doing such a feat.
