I got a 360 for Christmas. I plan on picking up the Orange Box and BioShock, borrowing Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect from a friend, and possibly downloading Braid. What other 360 games do you recommend I try out?

Bionic Commando: Re-Armed is great, if you don't mind a sort of retro challenge.

I wouldn't be surprised if you hear otherwise, but Halo 3. I think it's a great game.

Grand Theft Auto IV. If you've played any of the others, then you know why. If not, you're really missing out.

Castle Crashers. It's just amazing...If you can, I'd suggest getting the Orange Box for PC, but if you can't, I think it'll still be good on Xbox 360.

Edit: Oh and definitely get Braid.

Braid is not a maybe download, it's a must.

A strong recomendation for Oblivion or Civilisation Revolutions if you want two great time sinks.

Viva Piñata :D Seriosly, it's fun!

Crackdown, Fable 2 and, uhm... Sorry can't think of any others at the moment.

Anyway, said games have brought me hours of fun.

Fallout 3, Orange Box, BioShock, Oblivion, and Braid are my favorites, though I prefer them all on PC (except for Braid, of course).

You've pretty much got most of the essentials. Also, if you havn't played Psychonauts yet you can download it on xbox live. I just finished it. Its incredible.

Call of Duty 4 is a must too, really great game. I warn you about the orange box, if you've got a decent PC, get it that instead, Team Fortress 2's has the most incredible lag I have ever, ever experienced on the 360.

Also, Left 4 Dead is must, great game.

Um, what kind of games do you like? A must have game for RPG fans is not a must have game for FPS fans. Tell us what you like first then you'll get some decent recommendations.

Mass Effect and Orange Box and Call of Duty, without a doubt.
Definitly. Don't borrow Mass Effect. Buy it. You'll thank me.

You can get Psychonauts for free on Gametap, that's preferable.
Its weird, TF2 is fine on my 360, but has horrible lag on my PC.
L4D is, indeed, a must.

Fallout 3's a great buy; it satisfies the FPS and RPG fan, plus it has lots of content.

Gears of War 2 or Halo 3 are good for you're a fan of shooters. I'd also recommend Far Cry 2, but what do I know, I'm just looking at the games next to my computer.

Psychonauts is another great game I have on Xbox. Regardless of how or where you get it, it's a breath of fresh air.

I would recommend Oblivion too, even with its flaws. Oh! And Mirror's Edge; it's fabulous, fluid game as well.

I'd say I'm more of an RPG/adventure fan than I am an FPS fan. That said, I enjoyed the story in Halo 1 & 2, and the premise of Gears of War seems interesting.

The point of my comment was that its totally free on gametap, as opposed to costing money on the 360.

EDIT:I meant Psychonauts

Hmm, if you like RPGs and adventures then you may have made a mistake in buying Microsoft's Magical FPS Machine. I would have gone with a Wii, Nintendo has always been big on adventure games (Zelda, Metroid, etc...)

edit; oops, forgot about the "xmas present" part. Maybe you could trade it in for a Wii though.

You have a point, but I like western RPGs like Elder Scrolls, Fallout and the upcoming Dragon Age more than most Japanese fare, at least since the storytelling in Final Fantasy games has kinda gone downhill.

I agree with most of the suggestions made above (though I'm yet to play Braid) and would like to add Grid (if you're into racing) Either or both of the Condemned games, and Geometry Wars. I particularly recommend that last one actually, but The Orange Box, Bioshock, Mass Effect and Assassins Creed should keep you happy long time.
