MW2, What did you expect?

If I may, Id like to pose a counter question to all those threads about how much MW2 is so unrealistic. Who here actually bought Modern Warfare two expecting it to be a "realistic" shooter? That feeling of being superhuman is what most video games use as a hook anyways. As for the complaint that why is one stab from a knife equal to a bullet or two from any gun, there needs to be some semblance of balance or everyone would use the same guns and just end up complaining about that.

Is it a realistic game? maybe, its most likely as realistic as you can get while appealing to mass audience and remaining somewhat fun.

While it is true that there are too many fallacies to count that really shouldn't be that big an issue. Like the book the da vinci code... you didnt read it expecting to hear the word of god did you? They took an existing real world model and made it into a game. Who would play a realistic army shooter game anyways? Im aware there are games like that out there, but most people would pass it up because it is not exciting enough or it is too hard.

I guess my question is, what did you expect MW2 to be when you bought it? All these threads have compared it to standards that it could not compete with, nor would we want it to.

Edit: I changed the name to "what did you expect". I didnt want this to be another run of the mill "why the hate thread".

No Russian had no business on a plot standpoint, hollywood cliche repository, need I go on?
Yes it did. It allowed the Russians to react to an attack, making them look like victims, rather than them just attacking America.

I liked Modern Warfare 2. So it'd be interesting to see why people didn't.

Yes it did. It was blatantly obvious what the point of No Russian was.

The main gripe is that it's a multiplayer centered game with incredibly unbalanced multiplayer.
With that said, I still play it, and still enjoy it.

I've lost interest in tournament shooters, plus modern and futuristic war games have started to wear on me.

I think people feel that because it was hyped up so much it should have been perfect, which, newsflash everybody, no game is. They complain about such silly little details to try and justify their hate but when they list out the reasons they just seem nitpicky and bitchy.

Its a fun game with a good online multiplayer, I enjoy it and frankly I don't care if people don't so stop making threads about not liking it.

just a bad game all around in every standpoint

the only thing that was half way decent was spec ops
and even then that was iffy.

another reason it was bad was because of the freakin juggernauts 3-4 sniper rounds to the head and then they DIEEEEEEEEEEEE

It didn't live up to the hype. For a multiplayer centred game the multiplayer sure is unbalanced and a skilless pile of shit with awful maps.

And you, like me, probable swear at it when your Barrett .50 cal sniper rifle with FMJ takes 3 hits to kill someone... Am I right?

No one likes it because it was overhyped, to a point were nothing could hold up to the hype, so many were upset, and they were also upset at how many other people liked it, kinda like how I hate twilight because everyone likes it and I think it sucks, the same reason alot of people don't like Halo now, I like halo and MW2, but neither deserve the hype they received, nor the backlash half the community gave them.

While I don't hate MW2, I still have many issues with it.

Singleplayer while enjoyable was a bit short, and it looked like it was trying way to hard to be like CoD:4.

Multiplayer it self is good. The problem was all the bugs, imbalances, and exploits that the hacker players took advantage.

Single player was extremely short, poorly told and outdated with retarded enemy ai that stands in the same place and shoots without stopping until they're dead

The multiplayer is a skilless killstreak fest with no recoil at all and tiny ass maps. Perks are also shit and only unbalance things even more.

I think the real main reason everyone hates it is because of the previous installment, not cod:waw, cod4 was the best competetive online fps ever in my opinion and to be honest did anyone really believe that mw2 was going to better what game will be? halo reach is the last in the halo series and i'm sure will give it a good challenge but will probably fail as all the big fps's are going downhill cod, halo etc.

I personally liked MW2, but it's not without its flaws. Some people may hate it because...

1. Severe multiplayer unbalance. Some guns and perks are incredibly powerful, and the power progression of weapons as you level up is incredibly erratic, some guns just have every advantage over every other. Guns like the FAMAS and The M16 just rip people to shreds in no time, especially with perks added.

2. The campaign didn't really live up to the example of its predecessor. Call of Duty 4 was a well written modern war story(Albeit being part of the "Russians are the antagonists" trend) where as in comparison, MW2 felt more like an action movie with a convoluted plot.

3. Lots of cheaters in multiplayer. But that's those players' faults, not technically the fault of the actual game.

4. Because it seems people just like to hate popular things these days. Cheap answer I know, but it's true. Hell, my opinion was once really easily swayed and I hated a lot of popular things. I like to judge by my own preference these days though.
