MW2 is kinda like Potato chips: bite size satisfaction, easy to dig in but hard to stop.

*Black ops would be like a new flavor of potato chips from Lays: Same thing, taste a bit different, but still difficult to put down.

Its fun...that is all.
I know but... why? How can it be fun after nearly a year? I've played it a friend's house and I was bored after 20 minutes.
though your right, it's probably just people's opinions.
Oh please! I've played RE4 34 times! I can easily believe that there are ppl out here who like MW2 as much as that!

DURRR!! Because its a fad! Eventually after MW92347562345 They'll stop selling and exploit some other franchise.

Umm, probably because we like it? I don't know something like that. For eg: Why are people still playing Doom? Because it's one of the few games I enjoy.

You should try more heroin.
*holds up Halo Reach*
*Holds up World of Warcraft* Try some real good stuff, man.
Eh, tried it before, got underwhelmed. My friends stopped shooting up and I didn't want to be alone while doing it, so I stopped.

It sold about eleventy billion copies, and is a highly polished game with a devoted fanbase, I'm amazed anyone is surprised that the game is still being played.

ok this has been on my mind since release and I can't find an answer, I'm the only male gamer in my class that doesn't own a copy of modern warfare 2 and I don't intend to because I just can't find any replay value in it. alot of people in my school are getting excited for black ops (even if they're underage)which will most likely replace MW2. So tell me, Why are people playing this? The only shooter that I own and currently play is Battlefield bad company 2, and even then that's only because I like the vehicle sections(please don't take that statement as hypocrisy)
It's a fad as much as anything. Not only is there the entire issue of FPS addiction, but also the fact that the contreversy the games have generated due to the whole airport terrorism thing, and the gruesome "death by nuke" section in the original, have made these games "edgy" to be playing. As well as making them clearly something kids should not have so that makes it especially cool for kids to have and be playing them (as such things tend to work out).

It's not hard to understand, especially when you consider that as much was spent on advertising and marketing to engender this kind of following, as was spent on the game itself by all reports I have seen.

That said, FPS is not my genere of choice, there are very few games that are considered "shooters" that I play or support. Thus my interest is minimal. I can't speak for much of the content in the MW-2 games other than what I've seen, because it's not something I've played or followed too heavily. I can't say "this game is awesome because of this" or "it blows chips because of this".

The disturbing thing about your observation though is that it shows how heavily cowed the market is. The fact that all your friends own "Modern Warfare 2" and are getting all psyched up to go running out to buy the next title in the series despite all the crud pulled by guys like Bobby Kotick and the surrounding business practices is the disturbing thing. This kind of "junkie" behavior is exactly why he is able to act like he does, and heap abuse and ridiculous financial exploitation on the customer base. I can't help but wonder how many people who play "Modern Warfare" or plan to buy the next installment know anything about the policies of the company or how they are hurting themselves in the long term by supporting them. Skip a couple of "Modern Warfare" titles, give Kotick a bath, and down the road we'll probably all benefit with less financially exploitive games and more respect for the customer base.

Counterstrike is over a decade old and people still play that, don't they? People usually keep playing things they like, and people like Call of Duty.

Personally MW2 just annoys me now...

It is just so... unreal and insane compared to the more down to earth Bad Company Battlefield 2 which I love :D

Yes the BFBC2 is a paragon of realism in its depiction of the Russians having conquered everything but the united states and still having the manpower to do more than collapse. Neither game is down to earth. Deal with it.

that might be true, but i made the cold turkey :D

now cod7 is coming arround to tempt me again... T_T

DON'T TEST ME!
I know... and it looks 100 times better than MW2... no commando, no nuke, no stopping power and jugg, no stacking killstreaks, no shotgun secondaries, no danger close, guns have recoil.... drool.

Have you ever considered the fact they might enjoy it?
It's not that hard if you think about it.
Close enough to my answer. I was just gonna say "Because its a hell of a lot of fun to play, dick." But that works too.

Seriously, I dont understand why its so hard to believe for ome people that games like this and even Halo 3 still get players. Theyre just fun to play. People like to play them. End of story.otherwise they wouldnt be played so much.

I would imagine he was referring to the feel of the gameplay as opposed to the story.

In which case I would agree with him, BC2 does make you feel more 'in the battle' than the clusterfuck frantic gameplay of MW2.

*holds up Halo Reach*
I've been playing a lot of Reach and I have to say the multi has its flaws...

The boot after one team kill is an apalling addition, I got booted because some dumb fuck team-mate ran out in front of my Warthog and then voted to boot me for betraying him.

And then there is the godawful quit ban... the fucking game's shitty server disconnects you and then bans you for quitting!

Also, the maps are too windy and vertical... many games are spent with 80% of the time running around trying to find people. I hope they give us some smaller maps in DLC.

Yeah, thats true. Bungie stated that they're working on the betrayal thing, but the quit-ban is basically staying as is for the time being. Its bullshit, I agree. I have the same disconnect issues, it disconnects from Xbox Live randomly and its annoying as all hell.

Wish it had more maps. And more maps that weren't just ripped from campaign.

Sense of self-inflation radar is off the fucking charts right here.

Seriously, BBC2 is the same bullshit as MW2 except with a fancy destruction engine.
Not to mention bullet drop on bolt action sniper rifles, tanks, IFV's, helicopters, boats, cars, a requirement to work as a team to some extent, an inability to get through a multiplayer game by quickscoping or camping. And piss weak explosives is a small price to pay for not being blown up by someone who isn't even aiming every five seconds.

And doesn't CoD lack recoil?

Each to their own, however, at least MW2 keeps MW2 players away from Battlefield.
There's just as many childish and stupid BBC2 players. All the vehicles aside from helicopters are either ridiculous underpowered, or never utilized correctly, with helicopters being ridiculously overpowered and used to suicide bomb objectives.

Every person ever tries to snipe. It is ridiculous.

The whole defense aspect leads to a game even more focused on camping, as moving from cover will usually either get you blown away by the enemy team consisting entirely of snipers, or blown up by the tank that showed up right as you ran out of rockets, and your asshat teammates all pick Medic just for LMGs.

And that is pretty much all it goes down too, with the exception of UNLESS YOUR PLAYING WITH FRIENDS which everyone uses to argue about online games.

...or from the previous games! I know Forge World is amazing and all, but those maps aren't in pub matchmaking.

Oh, and Armour Lock... FUCK Armour Lock. COD levels of noob-friendliness.
