It's absolutely pointless. I could see a scene like that in a game like Heavy Rain, where it would actually be important. But, like the airport massacre in whichever Call of Duty game it was (MW2, I think?) it's there only for shock value, and so they can pretend to be mature.

This isn't mature. It's childish.

Goddamn it Activision.

It's a video game. The child is obviously not real. Should this cause controversy? No, not it shouldn't. Will it? Probably...because people are just so, so stupid and like to make issues out of absolutely nothing.

Who cares whether a child dies or not. It's a freaking video game.

What? We didn't know Makarov was a right ****? Who's surprised? Also, "No Russian" was entirely interactive and had you gunning down innocent civilians. This is some poor schlub who has bad luck and it's used to provoke an emotion. It's no different from News outlets overplaying the image of the Tower collapsing on September 11. No different.

A kid died. woopty fucking do.

I honestly couldn't stop loling when it exploaded, mainly because of the terrible graphics.

But alas...
Also, I see they're reusing Ghost's voice actor a 3rd time... His picture sort of looked like ghost too... but his name looks like walldraft... Wtf?

I came across this very randomly, http://www.allgamesbeta.com/2011/11/modern-warfare-3-child-death-outrage.html or http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dZhRNAeE9rk

Please take a minute to judge the video. You watched it ? Good, Okay as we can clearly see in what appears to be MW3 a child is killed by a bomb blast. Will this cause unnecessary controversy ? and what are your opinions ?

My opinion: I honestly don't have a problem with it, it's sad and a little disturbing but really I don't see it crossing any limits, the player is not actually interacting in anyway it's really just a cut scene and their have been far worse things in games then this so I'll happily let it pass.
Wonder what they are going to have to do in MW4.

Nuclear bombs attached to puppies trained to hunt pregnant women, no doubt.

It will cause controversy because some people refuse to make the distinction between fake virtual people and real life people. Personally, I don't care. It's not the first child I've seen die in a video game, and probably won't be the last.

I wish the Modern Warfare people would just get it already, stop going out of your way to create controversy every damn time. Look, the nuke death in COD4 was awesome because no one expected it and it was truly horrifying to pull yourself out of the wreckage of your helicopter, past all the dead bodies of your comrades, to look upon this utterly devastated city.

Being a Russian terrorist or killing kids isn't even close to the same, it just gets old when you come up with this stuff just to try and top what you did last time.
I actually beg to differ. The way I see it, The Call of Duty series meanwhile does have a somewhat Lecarre or Clancy approach to answer some rather big "what if?" questions. Sure, the solo campaigns are a bit Michael Bay, at times, but in the end, what scenarios would you come up with if you were to ponder on the current state of things regarding, say, nationalism, religiously fuelled hatred or staunch anti-America attitudes?

In some form or another, all these things already happened (minus the green clouds), someone would love to act them out or we at the very least do have to accept the notion that someone might actually be working on something like it, as in right now.

If a bitter loner does something like this, we call it amok and the news will be all over it over a couple of weeks. The case of the shoebomber or the burning underpants guy are ridiculed, but what if all those that have been arrested over the last decade just all over Europe and in the UK could have gone through with their plans? None of us wants to see it happen, I hope - but the CoD games let us have a taste of it. If you find yourself appalled and disgusted, good.

It's a video game. They could rip the head off of the cutest 3 year old girl and have someone literally shit down her neck hole and it wouldn't bother me. It's not real. Who cares?

Well, other than the psycho morons at Fox News, obviously.

Remind me to never take holiday in your country, unless you live in the US. For fucks sake people it's the golden gate bridge not Jesus or a giant 300 ton ham.

Let me put it this way, every other medium is allowed to kill the shit out of whoever they want to. Movies kill children. Books kill children. Some music talks about killing everyone. That being said, they just have to continue pushing the envelope. We already had you massacre a bunch of cops and unarmed civilians, where can we go from there? ... KIDS!

If you noticed the evil child death scene, thats good. you are more aware of the horror that COD and similar games are able to influence upon you. If you didn't, then keep on killing. COD Is nothing more than a military recruitment scheme anyway. Go play some Mario Kart or SSX. SSX 2012 coming out by the way. YEAH! Soz. Went off topic

stop your complaining, this isnt spoiling anything.

just because some guy with a camera gets dirty bombed doesnt mean we know what happens to price, soap, nikolai, makarov, ramierez, or anyone else.

ill assume you've seen the trailers and as everyone else has, have been reading up about MW3. of course some well known european countries and U.S. cities are already under siege duh. so shut up about key moments, this is a stupid cutscene that says "oh this family gets blown up while on vacation or leaving the U.S. because of "terrorism" and a kid happened to be there."

ill be renting this game, i cant even play multiplayer. i just wanna know what happens to price. if anyone knows, tell me.

This.

Despite the fact that killing kids has barely been touched on (and even less being ABLE to kill kids actively because of child immortality or lack of kid NPCs entirely)...

Waaaaaiiiit a second.

Where have I seen this kind of bullshit before?

Family Guy! The Simpsons! South Park!

"Oh no. A fake child died in a fake game! THE WORLD IS OVER!"

Seriously. >.>; Kids die.
There are hundreds of thousands of starving children in Africa.
A kid got killed in a gang shoot out here about a month ago. No outrage over that. Barely even got news coverage.

But then some random chunk of pixels flashes its tits, dies in an explosion, or is under the age of 18 in a videogame, and everyone flips their friggan lid.

Controversy tends to be completely blown out of whack. And thats why its going to be on Faux News.
