Well, they are experimenting, so I guess Yathzee got his way. But i'm stil not quite sure. Yes, this might draw some attention, but I still believe that World at War was closer to really gory then this: you could shoot people limbs of, for christ sake. Why is that not as bad as one girl dying, while probably hundreds died in MW2?

IT had a clown eat children. Nightmare on Elms Street had a demon kill kids in their dreams. You can nuke a couple of children in Fallout 3. You can kill innocent civilians in MW2.

Now, will there be a problem with a single child dying?

It's not even slightly controversial. As someone else said in another thread, you don't see the kid choking to death, nor anyone else doing the same. Just her and her mother disappearing in a cloud of green smoke, while the dad falls over and seemingly dies instantly, without any gasping breathes or choking sounds.

To be honest, TV shows have scenes that are a lot more controversial then that one. :p
The concussion of the blast that close from the explosion would have killed him instantly, and even if he did somehow survive, he would die from the internal bleeding caused by the micro tears or he would have died from the poison while he was unconscious/in shock on the ground.

EDIT: VBIED 2 to 3 times the distance than one shown in game footage.

it's very soft, but of course it will cause shitstorms

done before and more extreme too
odd that this one didn't caught controversy
They even put that scene in the demo for the game. I played it recently since I never really knew anything about the game before they announced the sequel which made me curious. I was very impressed by it.

But yeah, it didn't cause a stir because no-one knows about it. There's hundreds of games more graphic than the games that get targeted for stuff like this but they don't get any attention because they're obscure.
considering that there's 3 scenes of kids being slaughtered (that one being the first), it still baffles me =P

Oh no! Someone please think of the children!

Who cares? If it was an adult, no one would care.

Besides, it isn't like YOU did it, unlike in MW2 where you massacre a Russian airport.

Plus the kid doesn't exist.

Like i said in the other thread about this, MODERN WARFARE 1 DROPPED A NUKE ON AN ENTIRE CITY. Lots of children died in that, we just didn't see them.

Why do people seem to think this is in the game to cause controversy? Plenty of games, movies, tv shows, and whatnot have had scenes where kids die. It's not that big of a deal. Its not like you kill the kid or anything, its just there to make you mad and establish who the bad guys are, while driving home that whole "war sucks" message the games have.

Meh. After you kill every Russian in Europe, get blown up by a nuke, get called a fag online by random strangers and kill thousands of other players you don't know, this all seems a little trivial in terms of offensiveness. *eye twitch*

I look forward to seeing how this influences the way you kill a russian and an arab ten million times.

Meh, it was only a tourist.

In all seriousness, that didn't seem too bad. Like someone else said earlier, MW1 nuked a city where tons of unseen children died. Homefront killed a kid's parents right in front of...it which I found to be in poorer tastes. This wasn't as funny as I would have thought though so I guess this was just a fail all around. I don't see why the father died though, maybe he dropped the camera in shock but he seemed far enough away from the blast radius to have lived.

edit: Chemical bomb: understood! Still, he wasn't enveloped by the cloud until after the camera falls to the ground...unless there was a steam layer or something. I'm just going to assume it was shock that his daughter was just blown up and/or turned into a mutant.

As long as it's not real and does not actually harm any children what would even be wrong with it being interactive? Getting to shoot a child in the face in a game is not going to make you want to do it in real life.

Its a invading force attacking a Highly populated city, at lest its not like Alkaid who USE children to strap bombs to kids and tell them to go to the Us army.

The Call of Duty series is desensitizing people to violence and death. Their games are aimed at an immature audience that will think killing everyone who is not the same as you is the right thing to do.
Well, that's a bit of a stretch of the imagination, don't you think? Anyway, fox is probably going to have a few 'specials' on this one, huh.

Edit: I just remembered about the dead island trailer! That's a bit worse than this imo.

Having heard so much about this scene, finally watching it, I felt nothing but disappointment. It's such a bad scene, bereft of any emotion, or even shock. Everything was so token and unrelatable. It may as well have been two matchsticks that burned up.
Maybe in the context of the campaign it would have surprising, not horrifying. But as soon as you open it with a title about the child dying, it loses all surprise and all interest.

Really not even worth talking about.

I came across this very randomly, http://www.allgamesbeta.com/2011/11/modern-warfare-3-child-death-outrage.html or http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dZhRNAeE9rk

Please take a minute to judge the video. You watched it ? Good, Okay as we can clearly see in what appears to be MW3 a child is killed by a bomb blast. Will this cause unnecessary controversy ? and what are your opinions ?

My opinion: I honestly don't have a problem with it, it's sad and a little disturbing but really I don't see it crossing any limits, the player is not actually interacting in anyway it's really just a cut scene and their have been far worse things in games then this so I'll happily let it pass.
Child endagerment? Film has been doing this for the past 100 years at least, most notably Battleship Potomekin on the Odessa Steps.

You know, the baby carriage falling down the long flight of stairs, it's a film staple has been used so many times even repeated almost verbatim in The Untouchables:

at 3 minute mark
If film can, why can't the video game medium?

theres alot worse stuff,Movies, TV shows and other games some JRPG have Kids dead. Hell if i remember one right you walk into a village and theres a bunch of burn corpses some being kids. Also iv seen some games of people lined up Men,Woman and children lined up for shooting extractions or having the throuhs cut. This shouldn't be on "Oh my god look at what there doing?!" This stuff has happened and IS happing. Hell if you want something on par with this think of the nuke drop in WWII WE DROPED IT ON A FING CITY!

More adult people will look at this and WILL be shocked but we wont rant about it.

I don't really care about that, but I also don't see why they just had to put it in CoD.

So let me get this straight. The girl that died in the dead island trailer, everyone seemed perfectly fine with that (as far as i know).
But a girl dies in Call of Duty, and everyone breaks out the pitchforks and torches. Am i understanding this right.
