Hello. I keep seeing MW3 posts and thought I would throw in something about the series that I have thought for a while.

I think we need to stop reviewing MW. no really.

There are games that are made for an artistic reason and games that are made for money. The first one might have been in the first category but it is now, without a doubt, in the second. I might be simplifying a bit but really, how much is going to change? Its like pokemon, or madden, or dynasty warriors, they might tweak a few things here and there, but the core gameplay is going to stay the same.
How we feel about this? I am a right or should I go fuck myself?
I get where you're coming from, but I think you only take this stance because of it's popularity when compared to other games you feel deserve more recognition. Look at sequels like Arkham City, Skyrim, Saints Row 3, Assassin's Creed Revelations. People have praised these games for improving on the series but when you really get down to it, these games got a few more player gadgets and slightly modified game mechanics.

You can't honestly say that any of them overhauled and produced an entirely different sequel which kept things fresh. Hell, Batman gets a few more gadgets and faces new cameo appearances and he gets a 10/10. Consistency-wise, if Batman gets another sequel and outsells CoD, then people will start criticizing it in the same manner.

That's my take on it anyway, devs won't stop doing what works until it stops working. Most of these IPs aren't throwing in the towel yet because their original idea still makes money. Once it starts flailing in a pool of low water they might consider overhaul or starting up a new IP, but the numbers speak for themselves.

You are not right, at all. Pokemon may make alot of money but dear god they are not shoved out for the purpose of that.
Please tell me that was sarcasm?

Pokemon is an exercise in capitalism(if one defines capitalism as the creation of goods or services for the purposes of maximum profit), that's all. I'm surprised whoever invented it has yet to produce a thesis called "Consumerism: How to win at it by combining adorable collectible characters and every form of media.".

A lengthy title I'm aware, but that's why I'm not sat atop my golden throne paid for by the sale of a billion Pikachu dolls.
Please tell me that you've played all of the pokemon titles? That were not spin-offs.

Its self-explanitory that every new pokemon has introduced something that alters the gameplay, at its core it plays the same, the results are different.

"Games that are made for artistic reasons and games that are made for money". Are you serious with that statement? There is no such thing as a game that is not made for money.

I for one am getting sick of people just bitching about a video game that they don't like. You don't like CoD, don't play it. It's easy to dismiss the game as the same when you don't play it. EVERY sequel makes little changes but the core is untouched. Give me your favorite game series and I could make it sound like you're a babbling man-child for enjoying that game series.

They should just let Treyarch continue the series and bring out a game every 2 years IMO. Forget Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer. Sledgehammer put beyond all doubt they cannot make a multiplayer game for shit with MW3, and whats left of IW is pathetic, an insult to what they used to be.
LOL

Treyarch is even worse off than Infinity Ward. Screw that.

Hmmm. I accept the challenge. Let's try Unreal Tournament. Specifically UT99 and UT04, because that's all I've played.

MW3 wouldn't be so bad if the balance wasn't so fucking bad.

I'm perfectly happy with there being a new CoD game every year, but at least try and make a bloody effort. Nearly every single friggin' map is a clusterfuck of narrow corridors, compared to CoD4, they're terrible.

It seems that with MW3 they were just bringing back parts from the first two games in order to say "Remember when you loved this? Now give us $60", I mean yeah it was nice to see the return of Kamorov and Macmillan, but you can at least try to be slightly original. Also they seem too fond of Macarov being the main villan so they keep on trying to shoe horn him in to classic parts from the first game, i.e. Zekiev's assassination and the nuke scene, which kind of belittle the scenes for me.

Never mind person I quoted, you elaborated earlier.

Not really a fan of MW series any more. Didn't bother with MW3. The game just has crap single player in my opinion and i'm not really into the multiplayer anymore. On that note BF3 has also fallen to MW syndrome. They got rid of the original bad company for a linear campaign. I still like their multiplayer but its doing what MW does as well. Not changing a damn thing and reselling it.

Hell. Fucking. No. They do SO much better in the multiplayer department. Any studio that comes up with the brilliant idea of rewarding players who are not on a killstreak with a killstreak anyway needs to be taken out the back and shot.
And anyone who is Treyarch needs to be taken out back and shot simply for being Treyarch. We get nowhere by saying these things, so why say them in the first place? Regardless, Treyarch is a steaming pile of shit. Whereas IW is just a pile of shit. If I have to wade through shit, I would rather it not be steaming.

Hmmm.... I was under the impression that it did change each time! I play the single player pretty much exclusively, and the story changed and expanded each time, and the single player experience changed each time too! I know that each MW game I will get to do something I havent done before in gameing... Be it controling a squad between buildings via downlink from air support, and then zooming into the squad commanders eyes to clear the biuldings, or having a mission which involves escaping from a sinking boat, while the scenery bends and morphs around you... awesome stuff!

Here's my take, and I'm going to use TF2 as an example. Since TF2 came out, it has had continuous updates from Valve, some may say too many, but TF3 isn't even a fleeting thought in anyones head. CoD4 came out and it was amazing. It had a few updates and then was left when MW2 came out. I truly believe the TF2 model of updating could've been applied to CoD4, but wasn't, because Activision wanted money. Also, IW fucked up MW2 so badly, they HAD to make a third game simply to un-fuck the multiplayer...and for Activision to whore it out another time.

That works out even better, since I've never played Unreal Tournament and will make broad, sweeping notions about the game as the OP has done with CoD.

All Unreal Tournament games are first person shooters where you run around at stupid fast speeds where one guy is shooting at another guy until one of the guys falls down. Once you killed one guy, you go down an area and do it again. Then you do it again, except this time you died. Now do it again and hope that you survive...oh, there's also a flag sometimes that you need to grab but no one really cares about the flag because FPS fans are just babbling man-children who don't know how to work together.

Wow, you might as well have been playing the same game. What kind of an idiot pays for the same exact game?

You see, any sequel can be broken down in this same exact way (hell, any game can be broken down this way). From the most beloved classics to the bottom of the bin shovel-ware can be broken down to make you sound like an idiot for enjoying it.

I know, that was what I went thru while I was in school for game design. Also I said I was simplifying didn't I? What I ment by the statement was more its continued to be pushed out because of the amount of money it makes, and less about someone having a cool idea, if that makes sense.

Also it seems that people think I don't like the game and that we should stop talking about it. To clarify I enjoy the game, though I really don't play it that much anymore. And I do think there should be a discussion about it. Its more that I don't need to see magazines with two page reviews/ websites putting up reviews to tell me something I already know.

If y'all let this subject go. Jesus H. Christ people, ITS A FUCKING GAME... you don't have to even acknowledge it.

I'm no cod fan and the last cod game I owned was World at War. But regardless of how repetitive the game gets I find the people who constantly feel obliged to rant and rage over the game to be far more irksome then any CoD game could every manage.

Seriously, the best way to combat it, is to IGNORE IT.
Agreed.

CoD has hit that cultural sweet spot inhabited by Twilight and the englsih Conservative party where everyone with half a brain hates it, but it has so many idiot fans that it will always be there.
Sorry but you have just insulted pretty much millions of people. So just because I like MW3 it means that I am stupid? That is very, very bad logic and will not get you anywhere in an argument. Think about it this way, if a college proffesor plays a few rounds of TDM every night and enjoys is then in your eyes he is stupid?

OT:You are new here so I'll give you some slack. But telling people to stop talking about something will never actually make it happen here. As always haters are always gonna hate and fans are always gonna be there to defend MW. Just the way it is.
I didnt say all fans are idioits, i said it has a lot of idiot fans. The CoD games do have some astounding moments like the nuke in MW1, the prison escape from BlOps and the ending of WaW. But there is just so much gunwank padding between these great moments to appeal to those that make Forrest Gump look smart.
Aye you did. You even said that people who support the Conservative party are also stupid. But here's a conundrum for you.
MW3 players, in your eyes, are stupid and are victim to a glorified representation of war.
Tories, by the same logic, are also stupid.

So tell me this. Why was it Labour that offered our military in a war that wasn't our business? Clearly your knowledge of politics is equal to your tolerance of things you don't like.

OT: I like MW3. I've the UCAS points to get into any university I choose. My brother likes MW3. He's a member of MENSA. Somehow, I don't think there is any link between intelligence and taste in games, but, simultaneously, I think people need to stop bitching about CoD. It's here. People enjoy it. Go play your indie games and look smugly at the rest of us for being 'mainstream'. I promise, I won't mind. And while you play a glitchy, not-for-profit piece of art, I'll be having a damn good time battling vague soldiers with my brothers and friends, and at the end of it, I'll be happy to do the same thing the next day.
I don't understand why people get so upset about it.

In this weather? At least it'd be warm if it was steaming.
And...as for deathstreaks - why give the marksman a better scope if the opponent is clearly struggling? Surely if you're nailing a 24 kill streak, you don't NEED the bonuses.

And Treyarch aren't THAT bad...Christ, World at War had more memorable moments in it than any other game in the series.

And I go right back to what I just said, there is NO game that isn't being pushed out for money. The world does not run on puppy dog smiles and unicorn farts, money is the single biggest driving factor for the gaming industry. YOU don't think MW3 has cool ideas but I completely disagree and will continue buying CoD games until I do not enjoy playing them anymore.

Also, you can't bring up and bash a game and then say "Agreed" when someone says we should stop talking about it. You are the one who brought it up and now you get to deal with the people telling you why you're wrong.

I still enjoy it, and I don't play the multiplayer (I hate other Xbox Live users). The story mode is, while short, dramatic and fast-paced without looking like Taken, and by that I mean it doesn't exist solely to kill eastern Europeans. Spec-Ops is exactly what I thought MW3 needed as well. And this isn't really connected, but the enemies in the first few waves really remind me of the projections from Inception.
Anyway, Activision exists to make money like every other company in the world, so they should be allowed to do that in whatever way they see fit. I say this for the same reason I don't foam at the mouth with fury whenever I see Final Fantasy. It's popular. Maybe that's because it's good.
