Whatever, just wash your hands.
ehh really the only problem with avoiding sc2 is that it launched in the summer instead of near xmas so there arnt many other games around right now, but if you like rts games at all then just go buy dawn of war 1/2 or company of heroes, or world in conflict or something from steam, I dont think any of thoes are over 20 bucks and they will solve the problem of wanting to play sc2

I am feeling you on this, I had the same problem, only it took me less than a second to decide "playing starcraft II > my desire to see activision and everybody associated with it die" Sides, everybody knows that blizzard is responsible for the game, and that activision didn't do a damn thing but pay blizzard to put their name on it. which, looking at the box, they didn't even do (says blizzard in like 15 places though). I don't even know if their name is anywhere in the game that i can think of, except the ending credits

EDIT: and you only have to be connected to the internet once, and then you can play offline all you like. (except for multiplayer duh)

You know that if you go back on your boycott anyone you told about it will simply ignore not only all future comments on boycotts but likely anything regarding consumerism. By all means get it just decide if it affects your integrity too much beforehand because there is no going back once it's in your possession.

There's plenty of games around, they just aren't brand new. The last new game I bought was GTA 4 when it was released last month.

Integrity? I work as an IT consultant at a major investment bank integrity is something you sign away with the contract!

I'm not a preachy 'thou shalt not' consumer but I know that the only way to talk is with money. really I wanted to be convinced that buying a Blizzard product did not violate an activision Boycott. As it is I now feel more strongly that they are one and the same. Unless someone can turn my thoughts around with a well placed argument to the groin then I'm gonna have to sit this one out!

This is like you want to date this girl but have doubts since she's of a certain religion. You love everything she is and she does but don't particularly enjoy or even dislike her faith.

Same situation, except it's with Black Ops.
I mean, it looks really good and I like Treyarch, but after Activision fucked over my favorite game developer beyond repair, it'll be a little questionable if I continue to give them money.

they arnt new but that doesnt mean they arnt good, it means they will cost less and personally I think dow 2 graphically is better looking then sc2, same with world in conflict

Boycotts don't work. L4D2 and MW2 proved that. There, do what you want.
Good examples. However there wasn't much of a boycott since people had already gotten pre orders or queued on the day.

Again I say games should only force people to pay based on how good people think they are. Recently one of those arcade games pulled it off quite well didn't it?

Unfortunately this never really is going to happen. So... Either mass piracy is the way forward, or hoards of angry gamers protesting at the buildings preventing workers from gaining access. Not really much hope in either of those either :/.

I'm waiting till it goes down in price and I finish all the stuff I'm currently busy with.

Edit: I'm also currently (and have been since its release) boycotting the X360. So far, it's working meh :/

Ish. You can have job integrity and personal (friend?) integrity. You work for a major bank which by your own reckoning is beneath contempt but your friends may know you as the guy that always pays back loans promptly or will always help with a move for example.

I really dont care about Starcraft 2, if its important to you tto stand by your boycott then do it and get an equally good RTS.

I never boycotted a game, but didn't buy L4D 2 due to searing indifference and didn't touch MW2 because I couldn't care less. Instead I spent some time going though my older games which I hadn't played in a while and saved myself a lot of money.

I don't buy any CoD games, considering that they think it's the best thing ever made, but games they're in part with, like Quake 4 and [PROTOTYPE], those are fine. If you want Starcraft 2, go get it.

False. L4D2 boycott was successful, Valve paid attention and did something about it. MW2 however is true, but that game blows regardless.

thats more of a racist prejudice. the only religion that you could bring into it liek that would be that she had to kick you in the balls after sex every time and her religion vocally opposes kittens. you get the enjoyment but there is discomfort with how she treats you and a strong disagreement with their practices

Well, your problem is rather easily solved. Go google and read the press release about the Blizzard/Activision 'merger' and you'll see that Blizzard is an entirely seperate entity, both in management and in book-keeping.

The only way you contribute to Activision's success by buying SCII is via increasing the profits that Blizzard reports. This, in turn, may have the very subtle impact of slightly increasing the value of shares of Activision/Blizzard stock.

But no, Activision receives no direct profit from sales of SCII.

Id say you should wait and keep your vow as your not missing out on much. Its really not that great of a game. Multiplayer is all about who rushes who first and who can click the fastest. Single player is decent but its really short and extremely easy. Most of the missions are very short or pretty much involve you afking for 15 mins while it beats itself. Most notable are the collection missions, in which you barely do anything, and the artifact retrieval which are a complete joke. Their may be 26 missions but only like 8 of them are actually relevent to the story so your really only buying 1/3 of a game.
Uh, how exactly is multiplayer about who rushes first? the only time that you can't possibly beat a rush is in 3v3 or 4v4 if all the enemies are zerg, and they ALL rush you with 6 lings. Otherwise, there is always time for you to scout, see the threat and react. Also, if the single player is so easy, maybe you should stop playing on easy and bump it up to brutal. (but i will give you that any difficulty under hard is easy as fuck, and even hard is only hard if you're trying to get the achievables.)

EDIT: terribly sorry thread starter guy, It seems I've gone off on a tangent.

SC2 is really good, I recommend getting it. The fact that you have to log in through the Battle.net authentication server is their way of preventing piracy of the product they are selling, can't really blame them for protecting what they make. Once you log in with a battle.net account once, you can go back and instead select log in as guest, this will allow you to play locally without needing to be online. Unfortunately doing this disables all multi-player, but it will let you play the campaign without being online in any way.
