Long story short my brother is dumb and now my desktop PC is in trouble. I'm not sure what's going on because I'm not all that tech savvy, but I can't open up anything, access the internet, and pop-ups are everywhere telling me my computer is infected with all sorts of things like trojans, worms, adware, malware, etc. Is my computer completely fucked or is there hope?

I'm on my laptop right now fyi.

EDIT: my shitty anti-virus isn't working and I can't uninstall/install or access any program whatsoever

EDIT: As it turns out my brother turned on the computer and before it reached the desktop something popped up about having to restore my computer's files and fix/remove all problems. He asked me what to do while I was playing call of duty, so I wasn't paying any attention to him at all, and I said yea sure whatever. So essentially some random program "scanned" my computer and then a few hours later I turn my computer on to see that Pandora's Box had been opened and nothing was functioning. That's all I have to say about that...

You can try to run various anti-malware programs to fix the problem, but if it's as messed up as you say it is, you'll probably have to start over with a fresh install. If you do, password protect the computer when you're finished.

Try booting the computer up in safe mode and see if you can clean some things out manually. Or just reinstall if you don't have any important documents on it.

Also put a password on your desktop to stop your brother from ever using it again. And get better virus protection.

This is scentifically proven to make you feel the best out of all the solutions. What you could try is a full reinstall. Wipe your hardrive if you want a completely clean computer. If you can make backups of really essential stuff you like, schoolwork/art or whatever, the virus is unlikely to infect files like these.

How do I wipe the hard drive clean? I'm not completely computer handicapped, but what goes into it and how everything works isn't my strong suit. I'm embarassed...

As mentionede above: If you still can get it in to save mode, try and scan with NOD32 a few times (there is a trail version) and maybe ad-aware. Last could be indeed just re format or re partition (or take the partitions away and make new one(s)). Tip for the future: just give your brother a user account (limited rights) so he can't fool around.

I'd suggest replacing the Flux Capacitor.

Seriously, reinstall with the installation disks if you have them.

Honestly, if you're that tech-illiterate, take it to a PC repair place (NOT PC fecking WORLD) and get them to take a look. You'll save a lot of heartache for a reasonable cost.

There are a number of ways to do this. Firstly you can download a number of programmes online to a disk and boot from it to destroy all your data, you can also find programmes that do it directly from the computer but frm the sound of it you need to download it on your laptop and run it on your ruined computer. All these programmes will run you through the computer, try and find trusted sites such as C world to recommend programmes to you to do this. You could also uninstall and reinstall windows. There are a number of guides for all of these things online that will walk you through better than i can. The PC world video will show some free software to do this.

yea my cousin writes software as a profession and he's stopping by this weekend for whatever reason so I'll have him take a look at it. I think he rebooted my computer in the past.
