disable firewall(temporarily to check that it isn't the problem), disable/enable network connection, check proxy setting, ipconfig release/renew, google for instructions.

Do you have another AV installed alongside McAfee?

yeah, Norton Antivirus
Ouch. OP, you just killed me a little inside.

Seriously, though, neither Norton nor McAfee block many harmful viruses. I know this from personal experience when working on my mother's laptop. Plus, you have to pay for them. That's almost never a good thing, especially considering how ineffective those AVs are.

I have a good idea that will undoubtedly help you. One that I suggested to my mother about a year ago. Cancel your subscriptions to Norton and McAfee, and install these 3 programs.

Malwarebytes Antimalware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Avast Antivirus

Malwarebytes can pick up damn near anything, and it's databases are updated daily, if not more frequently. The only downside to the free version is that you can't schedule any scans; it all has to be done manually.

Spybot, while I don't have much personal experience with it, is touted to be amazing. Not only does it kill spyware, but malware and viruses on top of that.

Avast updates its databases daily, right after the system boots up. Scans can be scheduled, as well.

The best part about all of these programs? They can work together without any conflicts, and using them in conjunction gets rid of anything malicious that would ever infest your computer. And if you don't like these programs, uninstall them and go back to one (repeat, ONE) of your old AV programs.

Oh, I almost forgot, you can upgrade these programs to paid versions if you like them enough.

Woah, is this really happening,

or is this one of those threads that's aimed at highlighting what kinds of problems you can get when you force people to be online at all times play games (among others) they bought and paid for? And then after a few days we get a "gotcha!"?

I insinuate, YOU decide.

Away!!!!! *flies*

No problem. I do this shit for a living. If you ever need help, just PM me or something and I'll gladly get back to you within an hour, unless I'm asleep. I visit the Escapist more than is probably healthy, so I'm quick to respond to people.
