I am a cynic. Usually, my cynicism is good to me. It makes it much easier to predict the future and it helps to bring obnoxiously perky people down a notch, but recently my cynicism has been making me incredibly depressed. I just want to know what you escapees think about cynicism and if you've got any got tips on getting out of it.

Create an infinite cynicism loop by being cynical about how cynical you are.

I can find cynicism quite usefull when I am in a bad mood. Its fun at school making everyone realise how stupid their ideas are (No I don't do that for no reason its just they are really stupid ideas) I don't do that to everyone though. Just most people who anger me.

I had the same problem but as I matured I learned to see the beauty while still retaining a realistic approach to life. Best wishes!

Cynicism is fun but for some it can end up consuming them. It's harmless in small doses but if you become one of those people that is a cynic about every fucking thing it gets old, boring, humourless and annoying all at once. No one wants to be that person. I know someone like this, everytime he starts getting cynical on my ambitions for the future I just turn around and say "are you saying that because you've successfully fucked up your life and can't blame it on anyone else?"

Anyhoo. The best way to treat this is with a big ol' SMILE!

I had the same problem. But one day I matured.

That's not so say I'm still a bit of a cynic in some ways.

What are you being cynical about? When you feel cynical, remember that cynicism is just reaching for the extreme of a spectrum; what you really want is the sweet spot between complete optimism and that cynical view.
Or just learn to say cynical things cheerfully.

I can't help you there. My experience seems to be sending me further towards cynicism. Of course, I'm still pretty idealistic in my outlook, so a little cynicism would probably do me some good.

I'd say trying to look realistically on what the good points in life are. See what you can do to have fun, and help others out when you can, and above all don't worry so much about the bad points, deal with them if you find yourself in a position that you can do something about a problem, and be on the lookout for such opportunities, but don't dwell on bad things endlessly. Why worry about things you can't control?

I can't tell if this is idiotic or brilliant, but I think I'm leaning toward the latter.

You know, in most states, if you squeeze the word 'cynic' or a variation of such into that, you win a free stuffed bear.

Anyways, I'm an optimist. The world is light, fun, and beautiful, and I am just so freaking thrilled to be here! Its easy to get bogged down with nitpicking and sitting in a corner sulking about how everything is going wrong, but if you stand up out of the corner and look around, you can see everything is really good! And everything always works itself out in the end ^^

If all else fails, go listen to some Bob Marely while looking at lolcats, works for me~~~!

Well for the most part I am a realist though I have found myself becoming more and more cynical, though at this point in time I've forgiven the world for much, life's good ya know? Anyway, I see nothing wrong with being cynical, never disappointed? Check. Pleasantly surprised when things go right? Check. Simple, effective, nothing wrong with that.
