My dad wants me to get an Ipad 2 -_-

I was going to buy a laptop very soon but now after my dad has tried out the Ipad 2 at my uncles house he is convinced it is better than laptops and computers and that it can do way more than them. Apparantely my uncle (who is an IT technician for the company both him and my dad work in) says that its the best thing to get. I just dislike iPads really and apple updates their products way too much, there is just something about a computer/laptop and how its formatted etc that I just like.

I need to convince my dad that its not better basically, suggestions?

Also, do you personally think it would be better to get a iPad2 rather than a laptop? If so, explain why please

May I ask why exactly you need to convince your dad? Bragging rights or might be something more to it?

As for myself, I have nothing against Apple but I really miss the keyboard on the tablets. It may be cool and all and what not but really, when you have to type, keyboard beats touchscreen any freaking day.

So, if you want an argument, keyboards all the way. The feedback just feels better than that screen on my fingers.

I own an iPad 2.

It has SERIOUS limitations and SHOULD NOT be used as a replacement for a computer. Word processing (Pages), for example, is pretty neutered on the iPad.

As a portable device, yes, it works. Its certainly a lot easier to carry around than a laptop. BUT, its certainly not a replacement for a computer just yet. Currently my own set up is my laptop (MacBook Pro) as a 'desktop' of sorts to do any serious work on, and my iPad as a portable device that does things that I want it to when I'm travelling about or away from my computer.

edit: basically, think about what how you're going to use the laptop/iPad. Come back to me on it, and I'll tell you which device is more suitable. Both do certain things better than the other. While the iPad 'feels' really great, and is awesome for just walking around and using at the same time, for stuff like typing long sentences, a laptop is much better.

I don't think you should get an iPad instead of laptop. I know it's tossed around a lot, but it really is just a big iPod (Which is cool, but it's not a computer). I would love one as an e-Reader that reads comics, but $500 is way too much for that...

Look up the Gigabyte T series Notebook/Tablet units.

Screen can be used in notepad configuration or turned around and closed for tablet configuration.


I'd grab one of these if I had a use for it... or, if I wanted a straight out slate/tablet unit, I'd probably go with a Samsung Galaxy Tab or an Asus EeeTop. I will have nothing to do with the Cult of Apple or it's numerous iDrones.

Well I just started A-Levels so I'm going to do doing a lot of school work, essays etc that I will need to do. Apart from that I will just be watching video's and browsing the internet and stuff, but I want to use my laptop for atleast some light gaming. But the iPad's games just don't look like ones i'd play really and a lot of its app's are just gimmicks.

A laptop is definitely much more suited to your needs then, long typing simply doesn't work on an iPad well at all.

Yeah, no.

Sorry, but these kind of laptop/tablet configurations are terrible. From what I've heard the touch screen isn't the best, and besides, it uses Windows; the OS simply is terrible with touch.

Also, from my experience Android tabelts aren't much better than Apples offering as of yet; their often more expensive with a clunkier system.
