My Golden Retriever Rio died yesterday... i really am pretty much breaking down right now. I had her since i was six, she was only 7 years old so yes im not that old or anything. I have really no idea how to deal with it right now... is there any advice anyone can give me? I feel terrible and im not sleeping well.

Very sorry to hear that. Losing a friend like that is never easy, I've been there. Time heals all wounds. For now though, just think about all the good times you had with her.

My stepmother had a golden as well a couple years ago. She was getting old and unhealthy steadily, but all of a sudden one weekend her health went in free fall and had to be put down to spare her the rest. It was pretty lonely for a while, but we made peace, and after a few months, got a new golden.

Remember the good times, rather then swell on the death.
Remember how she lived, not how she died.

You may want to let a few more days pass before you start saying that you can't sleep. IT usually clears up as you cope with the loss. Also try to get out a work out if you can. It burns off excess energy, releases endorphins and all sorts of good stuff.

You could try drinking, but that doesn't really help with the sleeping well thing.

There's nothing you can do, though.
Either get used to feeling miserable until it passes, or stop feeling.
Yup.
So something died.
Just get over it. You gain nothing from being sad.

Remember the good times you had. Talk through your feelings with someone like a close friend or a girl/boyfriend. And see a doctor if the sleep thing persists.

Well, I'm sorry for your loss.
Really, the best advice I can give you, as a person who has not lost many loved ones himself yet, is to talk to people. In real life. Family or friends or whatever. Not necessarily about your dog, even. Just about anything you feel like.

That sucks, Im truly sorry for your loss.

Golden Retriever's are awesome dogs, mine died when I was in Kindergarten(sp?) but I still remember her fondly, she was a good dog :(

I suggest trying to take things one step at a time, its not going to be rather easy since such a big part of your life is missing but give it time and you'll recover.

Wish I had more/better things to say but, I wish you the best of luck! :L

Sorry to hear that, but you'll get over it.

It's supposed to hurt, it only shows that you cared for your companion. I've lost a dog too, so I know.

Time will heal everything, and you should remember the good times you had together.

Sorry for your loss. Just remember the good times you had with her. You'll get over it eventually. Maybe one day you can adopt another dog. :]

You'll get over it. It hurts at first, its like someone punched a hole right through you. But it gets better, just give it time.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I can't say I understand exactly how you feel, but I once had to give away one of my pets for good, a cat that had been with me for a long time. I felt horrible in the beginning, and kept feeling bad for weeks afterward, knowing I wouldn't ever see her again.

There's not really all that much you can do, I'm afraid. Just try to accept the fact that this happened, and try to move on with your life. If you get too depressed about it, I'd recommend seeing someone, not necessarily a psychiatrist, but just someone you can talk to, whether that's a friend, a significant other, or a relative.

I wish you luck, and I hope you're able to deal with your grief. :)
