If you have a pet carrier for your cat, just set it behind the door so it walks into it after getting the door to open. Then lock him in it and set him back outside, facing your now closed door. The taunting of it could very well set him straight.

Who am I kidding? Cats refuse to be taught what they don't want to learn.

Depending on where you live (expecially if its a totally wooden home)its probably the entire house frame shifting *slightly* due to the temperature and puttng your doorframe off the square.

Simple solution. Plane a bit off the bottom of your door. Fixed.

Your situation proves that God has a sense of humour. As for beating God here put something heavy behind the door like everyone else - who doesn't use pagan rituals - has suggested.

u could always try a quick "bolt lock" like you get on a gate. real cheap to buy and easy to fit, mostly all DIY stores will sell them for about 3 quid or something (5-7 dollars for US market) and if all else fails u will have a nice lock to keep parents out or w/e if needed for some extremely late night gaming. Also, you could try keeping the cat at bay with some catnip placed downstairs. I wouldn't go as far to say your door is haunted, some doors just pop open from time to time...my living room door does it. Or, do a classic "chair under the handle so it doesn't open" home alone-esque approach.
Hope this helps

okay,here's a thought.

okay, there is a ghost in your house. okay, get a nun. see if her head turns wholly around when she touches the doorknob. then you know you have a haunting. to be sure, put a nice gold ring on your nightstand. if a dude comes in and takes it and then goes through the door and disappears, your sure. then what you do is nail a cross on the door. then take it,dip in holy water, take off cross, burn, eat ashes, then bathe in holy water to destroy the spirit in the ashes inside you. you have purged the demon. but put another ring there again. if it happens again, dye your cat black and burn it in holy gasoline (gasoline with some holy water in it)
then bet the cat's soul your own soul that you can eat one lays potato. if you triumph, you have thus gotten the spirit away.

[HEADING=1]*gasp*[/HEADING]good god man! are you sure 12:00? if it is MAN YOUR WAIST DEEP IN SH*T
alright alright alright here's what you do: go to a church and get as much holy water as you can

go to your local armory and get a shotgun, a simple 12 guage pump action will do and a HeLL of alot of ammo

find out where the nearest place that has weilding supplies and make thick rebarb grates to go over your windows

go to your local building supplies store and get the thickest doors you can and get them attached to all exits immedietly

find a friend and/or family member that has experience in carpentry and firearms, the second trait is more important.

sand that door a bit then paint it so it will shut

hopefully with all this you may last through the night
god speed and good luck,

If you don't want to put a backpack/your dirty laundry/anything moderately heavy in front of the door, I'd suggest to move the slot for that thing sticking out the side of the door in to a position that makes it easier to click in.
I've looked at it, and that's the part of the door that has the problem. The thing sticking out of the door that's supposed to click into the slot doesn't seem to stick out far enough at night, yet it does during the day. o_O I don't humidity or settling could account for this.
I'm guessing it barely clicks during the day. You'd be surprised how much things can deform by even a small temperature change.
Try moving that metal plate on the frame a bit more to a side.

You might have to scratch some wood out of the new holes, though.
