probably the best rant i've seen about this game. i expected a lot of it, but it's always good to have it confirmed. obviously slightly one sided, but your section on gamers being able to spend their money how they like brought it back for me. a good read to say the least, nice job ^-^

Have you by any chance watched Total Biscuit's "WTF is" video on Modern Warfare 3? Your rant and his video is uncannily similar, did you by any chance see this video? Or ARE you Total Biscuit? Obviously, these concerns are quite prominent, but some phrases you've used are extremely similar.

For those interested, the video I'm talking about:
Ninja much!

It is probably coincidence though. Those problems that are explained in the OP are obvious once you see the game.

I only skimmed once I realised he was basically echoing the concerns of the WTF is video, this quote caught my eye though haha.

I don't hate CoD, I just don't, I've played loads of CoD 4 if I just want to have some dumb FPS action I'll still to this day put CoD 4 in. I'm not gonna hate you for buying/playing/enjoying this game, you're a gamer for fucks sake you can spend your well earned money and enjoy it however you damn well please.
This is almost exactly what TB said... minus the swearing and 'I'll still put CoD 4 in'.

It's really tempting to say that he got that opinion from just watching the WTF is. Well, all the negative stuff. But it could be just coincidence. But, this isn't the first, nor will it be the last complaints about the seemingly crappy PC port. I am not going to say it IS bad because I haven't bought the game, nor will I be going to.

Had to edit multiple times because I kept making my response within quotes.

I got most of the things I wanted to put in there from a long discussion I had with a friend over Skype. So it could be that he saw it, I haven't though I'll ask him to next time to tell me when he's gonna quote people. I used that last statement though because it perfectly worded what I was going for.

The funny thing is the OP no doubt expected this yet he still bought it xD
Yep, I bought it at a discount through my clan. Which made it 10 bucks which is a deal for any triple AAA game.

Killstreaks are as feared back to fuck you over, Richer get richer, poorer get poorer. Camping spots are carefully handpicked to give the person behind the bar/in the corner/in the bushes just that edge they always wanted.
Killstreaks are far more balanced than they were before. It's incredibly easy to take them out now and doing so counts towards your own 'killstreak', or pointstreak - which gives more incentive to do it.

You also complain about the rich getting richer but then complain that 'noobs' can easily play it. Seems a bit like you're just looking for reasons to ***** and contradicting yourself.

Now granted I play on 360 and yeah the PvP server lag thing is maddeningly frustrating at times, but I played the game for about 5 hours so far and it feels by far the most balanced and fair COD to date (once you get used to the spawns which are a bit nuts).

The aim assist for PC is bullshit, and I kinda agree about the graphics. MW2 had a much richer palette despite the fact that it's still a "realistic" looking game.

Can't really blame it otherwise, it looks ok to me, even if it's not cutting edge (and it also means it's more accessible to lower end rigs. I find it appalling that BF3 runs like shit on my PC on the lowest settings, but I can play MW3 on max, no prob. And no, BF3 doesn't look THAT much better).

Not exactly certain where that fps cap was, I played it at over 60fps on a gaming laptop, and the guys that configured them barely knew how to start the game, let alone change config files.

I've found balancing to be an issue in all MW games and I really haven't played enough of MW3 to comment on it further, but at least the weapons no longer seem to be futuristic laser guns wielded by immovable cyborgs since they seem to be perfectly accurate at any range with no recoil whatsoever (I'm talking about the assault rifles in MW2).

And yeah, the weapon unlock system is kinda shit too... I know it gives people a feel of achievement, but at least give us all the weapon accessories. I refuse to play without a red dot sight!

In the end, I also find MW1 to be the best game of the series, not only in MP but also in SP. The balance is ok (as long as you restrict the usage of the GL), weapons feel different and take actual SKILL and MASTERY to use properly (you know... stuff like learning to control recoil, accuracy, reload times, etc), killstreaks are powerful, but they can be neutralized/avoided by a skilled team/player (hear that AC130?) and the maps allow for a greater degree of tactical play.

just finished the campaign, quite disappointed :(.

it almost feels like they hired michael bay on to direct the story. plot full of holes, bad music, terrible voice acting.

i am not much into the multiplayer, i just wanted to finish the story... but even if i were to spew a bunch of spoilers out there (which i wont) but i was confused as to what the hell was going on in the story about 60% of the time.

i will be selling this game or taking it back to best buy.

kinda pissed at myself for paying 60 bucks for a 6 hour campaign and a multiplayer ill never touch.
And you didn't know this before hand? Really? People have been saying that since MW2. Too bad it costs you 60$ to learn that lesson.

OT: nice post , i didn't want to buy the game , then yesterday a guy from work bought it and his eyes were shimmering when he talked about it , so i started to consider it , then i read this, and changed my mind . That and i promised myself that i'll not buy any game that isn't a rpg. Oh well , guess i'll wait for the movie.

I agree, other than the color part (and PC specifics). The color argument is never a good one. That's it's style. That's what it's meant be. What if I say TF2 is stupid because of it's cartoon graphics. Well... It's meant to have those sorts of graphics. That's it's style.

I really wish people one day get over the color argument. Sure, Call of Duty would look pretty cool with cartoon graphics. But it's not a sin to make things look 'realistic'. The campaign actually had some pretty nice scenes.

Oh, and you should try the Co-Op/Spec Ops survival mode. I just finished playing it and it's actually quite fun.

Shock horror, someone bitching about PC functions, when its a CONSOLE GAME. Also, you can turn off certain things but that's just too much effort eh?
So you think it's perfectly fine to punish someone who would rather play this game on a PC? Bad ports cannot be justified/excused. Full stop.

There's no point in turning off aim assist in a game like Modern Warfare. The whole combat system isn't based on tactical skill, it's about who gets the jump on the other guy first.

If it was an older style game like Quake or Counterstrike, a person could take more than three shots before dying, and mobility and accuracy were keys to being an effective player.

This rant kind of lost a lot of impact mostly because a lot of the phrasing and points are ripped straight from TotalBiscuit's opinion on the matter.
