So these aren't your feelings on Facebook, but its users then?
But what is a social networking site without its users?

That's a good point, but I just like a little clarification in threads like these. I see people complain about sites like Facebook a lot, when they really mean they hate how the users use it.

Well, a lot of people are unhappy with Facebook's privacy policy itself. But the users are basically what sustains the site, so Facebook and obnoxious douchepickles go hand-in-hand in these scenarios. And look at how much impact it has on our society and the media.

I have been using it a lot recently, but that is because of military deployment... It is great to use as an email/messenger, but then also to keep up with people and see what real life is like while I am away... not only that I can issue blanket statements on their assuring all my freinds in one that I am ok.

Then the best bit is the fact that you can organise events on there... in fact some events I have missed because I didn't check my facebook! :S

Finally, as we don't have phones when deployed we use it as a kind of text messaging thing in our room with other people here with us... Like 'meet at cafe in 5?'

Finally it is great to be able to see up to date photo's of freinds, without having to download from an email, or clogging up my hard drives and filing system... I had a hard-copy photo album a few years back when I was on training, but facebook is so much easier...!

And the last thing is the fact that I have friends from all over the world... all over Europe, Asia, Australasia and the Americas... even a few in Africa! Without FB it would be VERY difficult to keep up with them!

It is unavoidable.
Delete your account, and your journey toward the geek side shall be complete!

Then again, I did that three years ago. Never getting into another social networking site again.

I technically still have an account, I just never use it anymore. I log in possibly twice a week to check messages, and that's about it. Though I did just create a Hydrogen Appreciation Society. Otherwise, it's just handy for checking if I forgot homework or not.

Personally, I hate facebook. I don't care about what anyone is up to. If it's important enough, they'll let me know. You know, actually talking, face to face. People that feel the need to inform everyone they've ever known that "oh no, I just fell in the mud. Here's a picture of my muddy jeans", are, in my opinin, very sad individuals that very seriously need to find a life. I don't want to know what onspirational lyrics you've just found, or what half-arsed quote you think applies to your life, or how excited you are to see your boyfriend. I have just over 100 'friends' on facebook, and I've hidden about half of them simply because I really don't care about what is going on. The only reason I don't delete them at all is because it would cause drama, i.e. deleting workpeople would cause conflict in the workplace.

Which forces me to interact with these people outside of the usual environment, e.g. work, sport, uni, etc. I don't want to talk to my work people once I'm at home. Once I leave the workplace, that's it, I focus on a different situation in my life and don't worry about that one until I return. It wouldn't faze me one bit if I never see certain people again.

I think my main gripe is that I don't feel the urge to tell everyone what is going on in my life. Those that are actually important to me (friends, family) will know anyway, because I'll physically tell them. Everyone else doesn't need to know. For that reason, I never post on facebook.

And what is with those 'like' pages. "There's a page for brushing my teeth when you wake up? I do that!" *like*. It's absolutely pointless.

That said though, I do find it useful for organising events. Other than that, I hate it.

I stubbornly refuse to join Facebook, in the beginning it was general disinterest that stopped me joining and then everyone that I know started telling me that I should join because it is awesome. That really made me dig my heels in, the more people told me I should join, the more I refused to join and now people have pretty much stopped bugging me about it.

Stupid thing is, I know for a fact that its the sort of thing I'd be obsessed with for a couple of months and then get completely bored of it and never use it again. I just don't see the point when I can get in touch through text, email and phone and if I'm that desperate I can send them a letter.

I use Facebook very rarely, and then only skim updates my phone. I don't need to use it, as anyone I want to talk to I can either see or text.

I find it's quite useful. It gives me a place to store pictures, while also making it easy for others to view them. At the same time, it's a easy way to keep in touch with friends I have all over the world (growing up in an international school does that).

As for the like button, I find it's a useful tool to indicate that I actually like something without needing to add a pointless "nice" or "I like this". I don't go around liking everything you see, just the stuff I actually enjoy!

What I'm not a fan of though, is the new timeline thing. I probably just have to get used to it or something, but it bugs me.

Also the poke thing. What's the point of that? what is it for? *shrugs*

I don't have an account and never will. Strangely though, my mom of all people is trying to convince me to sign up for it, which to be honest is kind of confusing. Communicating with friends is easier to do over the phone anyway.

I understand where you are coming from, but could you not apply that to many social networking sites? Especially the gaining popularity thing...

I use it to chat with family and a couple friends who I can't reach without a plane.

I don't pay attention to much else on it.

Yeah it is. It had a rather neat daft punk/ellie goulding mash-up.
