Okay with games getting released constantly and everyone talks about how awesome everything is i ofter feel a little "Left out". That game quantity thread made me think even more about it, I have to buy almost all my games used and i always have to trade in my older games for them. While I hear others preorder games several months pre-release.

You could call me yealus and if you do your right, I am indeed. The ONLY game i have ever preorderd was GTA4 and that was only because I could trade some year old 360 games for it.
I still concider myself a gamer but this makes me a little sad when i think about it.

Please dont call me a Whiny kid because im shure others have to feel this way to, And I will still never figure out how people can afford several consoles and a high end PC, Im running on a PC that was "Average" 3 years ago.

This brings me to another question, PIRACY.

Whe all know how widespread this is and if you read the above you will se how I just cant afford PC games. I have a 360 and a "Slow-Arse" PC and when i get enough money together for a game I have to buy a 360 one because thats the only one i know it will work on.

Because of this i have to "Illigaly" download my PC games "And/or" movies. So to me downloading these is justefied, And IF i enjoy the game (And it runs ok) ill buy it, Some examples are C&C decade and CoH (Both games). And don't pull the "It's entertainment so it can't be justefied that way" crap on me.

I should also mention im a complete game addict and it's MY LIFE. So if i took it away it would leave me completly empty.

I would like some other opinions on this, Than you.

Out of curiosity, how old are you? I run into this a lot on other gaming forums. Younger gamers can't figure out how people can afford all of this stuff while assuming that everyone else on the forum is their age. I'm not saying your post is bad or anything, I'm just curious. I'm 22 and I have a full-time job with pretty decent pay and no current debt so I can afford to buy myself the toys that I want when I want.

On the issue of piracy, I won't really comment because I've argued about piracy for a long time online and I've just given up.

EDIT: I guess I should have just looked at your profile :) Anyways, thats what I meant. Don't forget that the people who started gaming back on just the original Nintendo are in their 20s or 30s now, and there are plenty of gamers older than that.

*Sigh* Im turning 16 soon, I Didn't post that right did I? I know people with jobs and all can afford their own games but I know spoiled kids who get a new game like several times a month while i have to beg to borrow one and thats what i realy meant.

I did try to get a summer job but its hard when you or your parents dont have any contacts.

If you can formulate the opinion i'd love to hear it, Im more interested in what you think than to contredict you.
I guess ill be on in a hour or so, Please respond ^^.

How are you jealous, from your post you obviously have both a PS3 and XBox 360, and that's the most important part. The games themselves there are a ton of options, from waiting to buy a new game (You don't get to experience the game right away, not really a big deal)) to just renting the game.

But as someone once said in a previous piracy thread, you can't justify stealing a car because you can't afford one, and game's shouldn't be treated any differently. If you can't afford them, then boo. Trust me, I know how hard it is in some areas to get a job without having friends in high places, but life sucks, and that's how it is. On that note, though, I have nothing against complaining that it does.

Oh man, I know how you feel. I felt the same way when I was your age. I used to do 2-3 paper rounds a day for £14 a week and a new videogame was £35-40. I remember once saving for 3 weeks to get the money for Legend of Dragoon new, and then my friend, with rich parents, just *gave* him the money like a pence to buy sweeties. Man, that annoyed the heck out of me. I too used to trade in games.

HOWEVER, you may later appreciate your way of life. Growing up (I'm 22 now) I'm known in my circle of friends as the only one not to get in debt or have spending troubles because I'm so good with my money. I now buy and sell on the internet (Amazon and Ebay) and I'm so used to finding ways to get hold of games cheaply (and legally) or have patience that generally I don't have problems with games I want.

I *could* buy a 360 or PS3 whenever I want, but I haven't because I've learnt to have the patience to wait for it all to get cheaper. Instead, I'm making do playing Xbox, gamecube and PS2 games I never got round to years ago, and I'm getting so much fun for such little money (I got DOA2 Ultimate, Blinx 1 & 2, Munchee's Odysee for £2-3 each the other day).

But, yeah, chin up kid. One day your fortunes will change.

Yes the average gamer is around 25-30 years old I believe, I am at University but I'm an expert in saving money and keeping tabs on what I have got and haven't got. Tbh I am pretty much the only one within my friends circle (like Terramax) that isn't in debt or has problems. The best way around is wait a few months till the sales come out or pre-order of Amazon, make some good savings doing that.

Point of interjection: you cannot compare the theft of a tangible commodity to downloading bytes off the internet, period. If someone cannot afford to buy a game, then there would be no sale involved in the first place and hence no money lost if that same person were to download the game. If you are downloading things simply to avoid paying for them, that is a different matter entirely. Opting to spend your money predominantly on console titles rather than PC titles simply because pirate copies are so easy to acquire is the point at which software piracy does begin to have a real, negative impact on the industry.

Patience is the biggest thing I would say. I know that I could afford to go out and buy a lot of stuff but I am trying to save my money. I decided early on that I wasn't going to pay the higher sticker price on games to be a part of the first adopters, unless it was something really amazing.

Don't feel pressured to always "keep up with the Jonses." That is a surefire way to debt and working a job you hate to pay for stuff you may never use more than once.

If you can learn to enjoy what you do have and be content outside of the oft materialistic societal trend, you will be much happier in the long run.

Dude, if you buy something that's worth it after downloading it, it's fine in my eyes.

With the increasing cost of games/films/music and the huge increase of quantity on the markets, we SHOULDN'T be expected to buy everything on a whim. (unlike the cinema industry where you pay, watch it and come out disappointed with no come back for your cash)

I have several hundred CDs in my collection and about the same in DVDs. My game collection is something I'm rather proud of too and yet I STILL download things. Sometimes I buy, sometimes I don't.

It isn't my fault (or your fault) if the game/film/album is a pile of shite!

Its not money for me. It's DAMN ESRB! hate those bastards. When I was 12 I could waltz in to EB Games and get whatever I wanted. Now I can't get an M game. Since I'm a huge FPS fan, I'm screwed. To make it WORSE, I'm Canadian, and here we can't get games at the Source or Best Buy or Wal-Mart. Except for a few really crappy titles. EB Games is the only way to go and they are the only ones to enforce the lame M policy. So I either wait until my parents take me (maybe in 3 months) or pirate it...

I know it sucks when your that age not able to afford games. I have been a gamer my whole life, and when I was that age, I was working nearly full time across two jobs and all my spare time was spent playing the games I bought with that money (after paying my car and insurance payments, and not doing my homework). Of course, now that I'm older I have a full time job, have graduated from university, so I can afford the expensive hobby I have chosen. Point: I just bought a RevolutionX arcade cabinet this weekend. Choose a career you really want (Game Design and Development for me) and follow it. If you love it, you will be good and you will be able to make the money.

As for immediate advice, don't worry about stuck up rich kids who parents give them everything. Follow what I said and 10 years from now you will be rolling in the money while they work for mommy and daddy in some local business wondering how you ended up better off than them.

This I agree with. I personally look at downloaded games as an extended demo. Sometimes 30 mins isn't enough to know whether the game is good or not, if a demo is even released. Since most game review sources have all been corrupted, it is hard to know if a game is good or not, or whether you will actually like it.

If I download something, I play it until I know whether I like it. Then I either go buy it or I delete it. Sometimes I delete it and wait as much as a few years for a game. I have other hobbies (instrument) that take up the meantime.

Take Bf2 on PC for example. You could have bought the original for 60USD, the expansion for 30USD, and each booster pack for 20USD. That would total to around 130USD for buying them right off the bat. I spent 30USD the other day for the Complete Edition that came on one DVD, it even included the major patches from EA! Saved 100 bucks for not paying the "first adopter" tax and by that time I knew full well what I was buying, and the game works fine on my comp with no bugs.
